Shockingly bad movies you watched because they won awards etc

So you approached a Tarantino written film thinking he wasn't going to write Tarantino characters?

Were you expecting an historically accurate WWII film?

I forgot I even posted in this thread.

No when I go into a Tarantino written film I know exactly what to expect. Every character to be pretty much a vehicle to say witty things. I don't like that type of dialogue. I like his movies for what they are but all his films have a few clunkers of lines in there that snap you right out of the moment of sweet sweet escapism.

I can only suspend my disbelief so far.

Mulholland Drive, Brazil and Aguirre, the Wrath of God were all critically acclaimed films that disappointed me immensely.

New to thread. Will read when I have time. Apologies if it has been mentioned but my nomination goes to:

Drive

What an utter piece of shit.

Don't expect anything.

I knew absolutely nothing about it before I watched it except that Goose was in it. AFter the credits it was pretty obvious what the director was trying to so. 90 minutes later and I've got nothing but a shit movie with poor dialogue, 2 mildly entertaining action scenes, a lot of silence and pink titles.

If I want to watch "Cobra" like movies, I'll just watch "Cobra".. or not.. cos they are shit.

Caught up on thread.

Donnie Darko. I remember watching it with mates and they all loved it. I thought it was shit. Not my cup of tea. I probably didn't get it. I still think it is shit.

Inception - I also agree on. Probably cos I am too stupid.. or maybe too smart. I don't know.

People will very likely disagree here but.

The Road - Exactly what I expected and completely like the book. Boring.

Not sure if it won awards, but Tree of Life got high scores on Rotten Tomatoes and was absolutely awful. Bumbling attempt to produce deep, meaningful art cinema. Completely and utterly boring on top of it. The moment it finished was one of those great human moments when you look at complete strangers and ask "do you think we can get our money back?"

Drive is overrated for sure, a very pretty package wrapped around absolutely nothing. It seemed to set itself up nicely in the first half hour but in terms of plot it just closed off with a dull thud. Its more like a 2 hour retro music video.

I can understand the hate for drive, I personally thought it was a fantastic movie (I've never really seen a movie that had so many compelling scenes with so little dialog). However, there is no doubt it was more style over substance. It's definitely one of those movies you'll either love or hate.

I don't hate it by any means, I just felt that after a while it stopped bothering to tell a compelling story and got too carried away with its aforementioned style. The last 20 minutes in particular was just a damp squib, the conclusion came and went without any real impact. Finished up a 6/10 for me.
