Let him leave and go with Ford I say.

The more I think about it the more I feel we need Frizell. If we lose De Belin he would be great in the lock position. In my opinion Merrin should be at prop given the low minutes Graham will no doubt be effective in 2020. So:after injuries incurred during the 9s my team is:

1. Lomax
2. Ramsey
3. Fuimaono
4. Williame
5. Saab
6. Sailor
7. Norman

8. Merrin
9. Hunt
10. Vaughan
11. Ford
12. T Sims
13. Frizell

14. Luke
15. Kerr
16. Lawrie
17. Host

I think this is our best option for round 1.

Watched the interview a couple of times now and it appears to me that its 50/50 him staying. Twice said he loves the club, but I think there are some issues he needs clarity on. One being who will he head coach moving forward. If $$ isnt the issue for him, and he loves the club, why would he uproot his family, kids to an environment that is unfamiliar to them. My only answer comes down to 2 things imo.
1. Coach and coaching staff
2. Length of deal
On the 2nd point I have heard he wants a 4yr deal.
If Friz decides to depart then, we do have sufficient back up in Ford, Host and even Fuimoano.

You have nailed it.

I'd reckon the Rorters would be offering the least, knwoing that they can say, 'At least we can give you a 50:50 of winning a title or better.
How can they keep ALL their players & Frizz, under the cap?
Total bull if they can.

He'll only go to Newcastle for the coin, so it needs to be massive.
Can't see it though.
Reckon he'll stay with us IF he can see a glimmer of hope ( McGregor gone ) and we have Shepperd & Flannagan.
I reckon one thing that could sway him to Newcastle is some of the origin boys from the Rorters and ex Rorters like Pearcy and co have got in his ear about how good this new coach is and that he's a real shot at a title there. I still don't know if they are though. I see them about the same as us on paper tbh maybe a touch better in the front row and we are touch better in the back row. Our outside backs are similar other than Ponga I reckon our halves are better seeing as they don't even know who's playing 6.

The Dragons need at least one tough beggar in their pack and Frizell is that man .
Simms when he is fired up is is our other dreadnought , but he does seem to run hot and cold at times .

Should Fritz decide to move on then our pack will become 2nd rate as the other forwards simply do not possess the same degree of mental toughness about them .

The J.V. should be moving Heaven and Earth to resign the man . :innocent:

Even if he wins a GF at say the Rorters surely its a hollow victory. We all know and he knows that a victory would be much sweeter if he does so in a red V. Gal is the perfect example, I hate the gummies but they went through hell, much worse than us but he stuck around and eventually got that prized trophy. I can guarantee that victory would be sweeter than say Brett Morris's second GF at the Rorters last year.

I agree we shouldn't pay overs, I would also like to keep Friz but put a value on him and its then up to him. Similar to Dugan we offered him a very good deal but he chased the money and an extended deal that the gummies were silly enough to offer and look what has happened. Although I rate Friz way ahead of Duges as a person and player.

Yeah, Duges is a good comparison - not skill/player wise, but money and contract length. Could almost throw Thommo into the mix there as well.

The club has to consider the guys coming through. You want to keep them but if you keep blocking their path with long deals for existing players, they're going to leave.

Hell, if I had a son playing for the lower grade Dragons and he was knocking on the door of the NRL but the Dragons signed a player in his position long term, I'd be advising him to look elsewhere to get his shot.

Gallen was a one club man who played close to 350 games for the Sharks.
Tyson came to us in 2013 from the Sharks and played around 140 games.

Chalk and cheese.

If he and his family see a window to earn better money, win a title, he should take it.
A premiership will not seem hollow at all. He has played at the highest level, and the only thing missing is an NRL premiers ring.

He has openly said he supported Dragons as a kid and his dream was to win one with the Dragons. Make no mistake a victory in the red v would be sweeter than with another club. The money is about the same, he doesn't have the cost of having to move and both us and Newy are offering 3 year deals. Would it be as sweet as Gal's no but its far from chalk and cheese.

Time will tell how much he wants to stay with the Club or not.
Gallen, like him or not, stayed for less with the Sharks, as did one club players for us like Hornby, Creagh and Flo.

I hope he stays, but Im not fussed if he moves on.
Might not be the club he doesn't love, it might be that he doesn't want to waste any of his final three years being coach by Mary and not even knowing who the CEO is.

Tbh Friz played the 9's like a man with plenty on his mind.

If Waterboy’s staying 2 yrs as ‘real’ head coach he’s gone - especially if Albert’s CEO

2 yrs of pressers would be mind numbing

Offering short term captaincy would be a bandaid he wouldn’t want anyway

If JDB is an issue for his family, then another season training with him would be debilitating.

Good chance he’s gone imo - especially if he wants 4yrs & we’re only offering 3

I am not sure if Tyson falls into that special category whereby the NRL allows some type of dispensation for being a long term player with the one club , will actually help our cause in resigning him .

He has played with the Dragons for quite some time now so perhaps the club is eligible for the extra funding , as I said I am not sure exactly how that works , but some among us would know . If we do qualify then hopefully it may be enough to get us over the line to having Fritz remain a Dragon .
All clubs claim the 200k exception so its not much of an advantage. Instead of the cap being 9.5 its 9.7.
You can claim long term club and long term nrl plus any junior developed player.
So yes Frizell does qualify 8 years so does Merrin 10 years NRL and a heap of our juniors Host Lawrie Dufty Ford etc. The club spreads it over the players.

I have great respect for Frizz but part of me hopes, for his own benefit, that he goes. Over the last few years he has almost instinctively run back into the middle of the ruck. The same thing happened time after time on the weekend. He gets the ball one or two off the ruck and is turned back inside. The only time he targeted defenders out wide last year was when Fittler had him running these lines in the Origin. When he did this he ate up metres and broke the line. For us? Predictable and a front rower in all but name. And he probably knows that despite all our talk Mary will not be going anywhere quickly. Those chanting for Flanno need to remember two things, he cannot be head coach until 2022 and if Morris is not extended as coach for Cronulla beyond this year, where would Flanno choose to go for the NRL gig, Saints or Cronulla?

All good and valid points and TBH Flanno isn't exactly a coach with an exciting game plan is he?
Lot's in here hoping Flanno gets the reins but why the f**k do we want to watch a side that plays like the Sharks team that he coached?
If Frizz wants to explore the chance to see how really good he can be well he has 2-3 years max to do that and it won't happen if he is in the Big Red V.

Depends - I never find winning to be boring...

His style was pretty much like Mary’s but dirtier. More niggling, cheating, stomping on fingers. Along with peptides and salary cap rorting. Not my cup of tea.
