Yeah, well he has a reason to find excuses, I don't.
My excuse is that I am not a lemming. Nor am I a never was making personal attacks on any of the players in the Sharks. I can accept that any of the players may not be up to standard what I can't accept is when the same standard is not applied to all players.

I find comments made from McSharkie (hmmm is this a person with the same level of substance as a Big Mac?) based totally in ignorance and bias. I am prepared to stack my credibility and credentials against those of the junior burger at any time.

Is criticizing a players form making a personal attack? I guess it depends on the context. I agree that McGoldrick has been unfairly singled out in what has usually been an abysmal backline, but that doesn't necessarily detract from the fact that individually, he's had a poor season.

No problem with that. I would be interested in what criteria you are using to judge a poor season -- the facts:

In amongst a truckload of tackles, a few were missed (can you name any of the other centres who have not also missed them -- Mr Vagana has missed his fair share already. There was one game where it could reasonably be said a tackle he missed led to a winning try -- no excuse, but a fact - on this occasion he had been shifted to wing (a position he hates with a passion) to cover an injury.

He has scored 2 tried this season (didn't have to do much for one of them but still had to be there). Next in the tryscoring ranks are Rieck and Peachey -- both now copping a hammering).

Kimmorley's style of play does not suit the backline unless the forwards are dominating in both defence and attack. The only time this year this has happened was for a brief time during the Manly game.

That is yet to be seen.

Neither was I, I was simply calling how I see it. Zeus wouldn't be in my top side. Simple as that.
I can accept that any of the players may not be up to standard what I can't accept is when the same standard is not applied to all players.
That standard is applied to all players but the fact is that Zues is not a previous champion and IMO he doesn't offer alot of potential, that is why others get a better deal.

That is personal abuse, but I don't mind. If your credentials support your ridiculous effort to associate my Scottish heritage with a fast food company then I am quite happy to take the Pepsi challenge with you Mr Headmaster.

I think Simmo has been unfairly singled out.
I watched the game again yesterday and, while he had an unhappy night, he was far from solely responsible for the loss.

Yep, there were breaks galore down his side. But with the exception of Gas fending him off once, each one of them occurred due to the Dragons running at he and Bails in numbers. The times Gas and co got between Simmo and Bails it was a case of 3 on 2. Bails drawn in, Simmo drawn in, but with another player left unmarked outside him. What do you do? If you go for the player with the ball he passes outside and he scores. Stay on your man and the guy with the ball breaks the line and scores, or sets up support. I'm more concerned with the fact Peach failed to even lay a hand on any of them.

Let's face it, the Dragons support play was far superior to ours. Whenever they made a break there were support players there in numbers. Maybe we could learn a thing or two from that.

As for his handling errors, he made two. The first was a one-on-one strip. The second, well, it was a stupid error, no argument.

But do we hear the same cries against Peachey for putting down a ball when Stevo had put him into a gap on the half way?

Thought not....

I am not basing my opinion of Simmons on the Dragons game. I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt but there is just too many black marks to his name now - His unhappy night against souths, letting in a try against Canberra due to poor positional play (even though the defence was compressed to halt the forwards a winger has to stay on his opposite), Grothe runing straight over him Vs parra (granted he ran through half the sharks team but Simmons was the first line of defence), plus the Dragons game.
We need experience out on the wings before potential IMO. Potential can be developed in Premier League especially in Simmons case as he is still learning the game. If Raper wants Simmons to play wing and not fullback he has to learn how to play it first in PL before he returns to NRL level.

Kent must be wondering what he did wrong last year!

Simmo is a player of great potential, and to bring that potential through we need a good balance of PL and first grade IMHO. At the moment he is too much of a liability. Its killing us, that poor defence on the wings.

Kent is out injured. Quite frankly none of our premier league backs are putting their hand up for first grade, by having stand out performances in PL.

I agree that Simmo has been very average over the last two weeks. Last year I called for Jarrad Anderson to be dropped for performances of a similar standard to Simmo's.

Those that blame Rieck for the glaring misses on Gasnier down the right hand side defence need their eyes tested. It was Bails and Simmo who were marking Gasnier. Check the videotape.

not a bad effort by this boy on saturday night, i thought his try was one of the better individual efforts by a winger this year.

good to see stuart raper stick to his guns .

Absolutely. Simmons will be terrific for this club and must stay up where he is.
Someone better be taking this young bloke for kicking practice EVERY training.
Next Cronulla fullback unless Matty comes back then he will be next after if Jesus doesn't play 5/8.

He needs defensive practice. (where are you ET?)

At 19 he wouldn't even be able to defend against acne!

How did Freddy go against Davo at 19?

Time and wieghts will go along way to helping his defence.
The best we can do is teach him technique and tell him to keep going at 'em.

I remeber Freddy in the 1991 Grand Final (he was 19) chasing down Mal Meninga and chopping his legs from under him near the halfway line in the first half. If he misses Mal scores. Age is not an excuse.

If Simmons wants to stay in first grade he has to pick up his defence. Sure alot of it will come with time and learning the positional play of a winger.
Strength is not everything when you defend. Technique which you mentioned is very important and hopefully Et is working with him or is going to work with him on his defensive technique. Anyone can see that Simmons goes high all the time and gets bumped off easily.
