& whats with all the Simmons hate?
he made a few blues but I reckon it relates to the centres problem.
he's going well IMO & will thrive with more confidence.

No way in the world I'd drop him. If there are any TOP GUN fans in this forum you may remember a quote from Viper just after Goose dies.

A guy says to him, "I don't think he can get back in the saddle."

Viper says, "Keep sending him up."

That's what we have gotta do with this side. Keep sending them back out there until we get it right. 100% right. We are getting something new right every week, when it all comes together we will be hard to beat.

The Dragons were right on song this week and would have thrashed just about anyone.

Making big changes including moving Simmo won't help us achieve any long term goals. The quick fix isn't the way to go. Everyone here is saying that Simmo WILL be good. Cool, let's see that happen in first grade.

Added to that is the fact that we have already lost Matt Rieck through injury (how long is he out?). Thats a forced change, no need to make another IMO.
Geez McSharkie next you'll want Bird straight into 5/8 when he comes back from his holiday, changes need to be made and if you didn't see the mistakes Simmonds made last week I can only say you must have been at the bar an awful lot of times

I am sure Bird has a place in this side in the future mate. In fact, I am looking forward to him returning.

On the subject though, Simmons made a couple of errors but you can hardly blame him for our loss. Keep him in first grade and he will learn valuable lessons every week. Drop him and the long term goal is lost.

Everyone is still looking for the quick fix. May I remind you that this time last year we had 1 win from the first 8 rounds. This year it is 3. We are improving and I would like to see that improvement continue. Keeping these blokes together is the way forward.

What, a pass?

And how many times did Hilder pass on Saturday night?

Very true. Neither Hilder or Bird are the long term solution at 5/8. Just be patient, our 5/8 solution is under our noses and will hopefully be unleashed very soon.

What an interesting thread(s) - lots of good points + some good old-fashioned prejudice. Here's some thoughts:

1. We didn't play that badly on Sat. night. We gave them a sniff, and then everything they did worked. (cf. Newcastle game 2002 - Knights weren't that bad, just we were perfect that day)

2. Simmons wasn't the worst. I thought he was better then Bailey who was marking Gasnier and was just too slow in defence, putting Simmons in really difficult positions. BAiley needs to go into the forwards - which he would prefer

3. Something we really lack is team cohesion. This is built over time. Chopping and changing people every week is going to make the process longer. Dropping Simmons for one poor game when the whole team had a poor game is just dumb.
However, I think that except for a few players (BK, NV, JS, DP and MS) if someone gets injured/suspended then they should come back in PL and force their way back into the top grade if they can.

Just my 2c.

Funnily or co-incidentally enough there wasn't too much hate (or simmo mistakes either) when he had the centre everyone loves to hate inside of him.

I'm sorry, all those saying simmons wasnt that bad or making excuses were obviously not watching the same game i was.

I was sitting in perfect position right near the play when Gasnier went straight through Simmons THREE TIMES. he dropped the ball TWICE in our own 20. and its not as if last week was his only bad match. Week before he was shocking aswell.

He's done shit all this season, and its all well and good to say "only way to get better is with experience", but hes obviously not up to first grade standard at the current moment.

Hows about we put those under 6's playing at half time in the next game, give them some experience.

The centre cant be played for simmons atrocious one on one tackling. I looked at the stats in big league, 0 tackles, 3 Misses, GREAT.

And Hassan Saleh must be feeling hard done by. He's playing pretty good in premier league, our 2 wingers Rieck and Simmons have been a joke recently, and he CANT GET A GAME

WHATS WRONG STUEY, IS IT CAUSE HE'S A LEBO OR SOMETHING.

no mate not lebo but .....LEGLESS and that is being kind!!!!

he came to the club acting as manager for his brother who wanted a game ...........and we got him!!!!!

get a video of the souths game and exclusively watch saleh, i dont think you will still suggest him for first grade!!!

simmons has scored a few tries however his defence has let him down no doubt, but the writing is on the wall, the coaching staff are sticking by a player they rate and good on them!

I disagree Pogo. He has been one of our better players this season, in the games he has played. He most certainly deserves a stint over Simmo. Its a bit of a travesty that a kid is playing over an experienced NRL player. Injury has hit us in the backs, and that is why we have Saleh. Give him and Merritt a go on the wings IMHO. Saleh couldnt be any worse than Simmo has been so far.

I agree Salmon.
Simmons potential is there for all to see .eg. how good he is under the high ball and some of his attack. There are just some aspects of his game which he needs to get up to first grade standard, alot of which will come with experience. He needs time in premier league to sort himself out and we can afford to let this happen because we have experienced backs .ie. Saleh, Kent , McG, Franze waiting for another crack at first grade.

No way. Leave him in first grade. If he goes back to PL he will lose confidence and go backwards. Keeping him here is the best way to see future results. Don't panic Sharks fans, we are building for the future.

But McS, if we use the logic of players losing confidence - imagine how Saleh, McGoldrick, Franze are feeling. Kent must be wondering what he did wrong last year!

Simmo is a player of great potential, and to bring that potential through we need a good balance of PL and first grade IMHO. At the moment he is too much of a liability. Its killing us, that poor defence on the wings.

Personally I prefer players with potential to has beens and never was's. Franze is the only bloke there with an excuse. He is down on form because of his injury. McGoldrick has been terrible this year IMO and Kent is a centre not a winger. Saleh is a reasonable backup but I would certainly prefer Simmons to him.
