Was it like the one Slater did against Watmough in origin 3?

Watch it yourself and make up your own mind. Hayne made 3 or 4 ripper try savers against Manly last time we played them and also on Inglis in origin 1. His positioning sometimes may not be the best, but as far as defence goes he's a very strong defender.

lol... you look at the people who have voted in this poll... not many non-Eels fans votes for Hayne.

Slater easily, btw. Hayne has a lot of growing up to do.

And all the Melbourne and/or Queensland fans went for Slater. If you take out both obvious fan bases, it's still pretty even, which I think is a fair result.

I said in another Hayne thread that Slater is best support player I've seen, but Hayne can do things with the ball Slater (or any other fullback for that matter) can't. Having said that, I wouldn't swap either of them for Boyd, though I would take Hayne to play 5/8 next to Soward and punt Hornby. I'd also take Minichello at his peak over either of them.

In a direct contest Slater vs Hayne, all things considered (including my strong dislike of Slater), I'd take Hayne.

Pretty good try saver Hayne made last night. Did you happen to catch it?
haha I was commending how good that was to a friend of mine and she asked me if it was better than Slater's in origin - definitely not. Slater is a freakish try saver - creative too, even if that means his methods become illegal, he is creative enough to find new ones

As for Hayne, I love having his talent in my team, but he has this arrogance in his game which is really off putting and irksome. It's a good thing other Eels players know how to play with him, or more of his no look passes would go nowhere/over the sideline. He also crab runs a fair bit when he should be offloading or even taking a tackle. The play which ended in Noddy getting a penalty is a prime example of this

Hayne has been great all year - just been AWESOME in the last 3 games.

The previous 17 there was an argument about who was having the best season as a fullback: Hayne led all fullbacks in meterage, meters per kick return - and was second in try assists and line break assists.

He played the deciding role in 4-5 games this year BEFORE round 17 (Manly x2, NQ, Bulldogs, Storm)

Then BOOM - he has 3 games which nobody else in the comp could produce (NQ, Penrith, Bulldogs) and shows that there is no debate.

Oh - no debate except on the LU forums where people admit they haven't been watching Parra all year but can somehow authoritatively state that (1) Hayne only turns up in July and (2) Hayne has poor positional play

While you maniacs go on with your ridiculous 'theories' I'm sitting back enjoying watching the best player in the world (by quite a distance) and laughing at the suggestion that he's poorly placed defensively. Yeah - keep on dreaming bozos...

Hayne isn't the only one who could do that.

Marshall, Thurston and Lockyer ring a bell?

Slater. But, as with the general consensus, in a few years quite possibly Hayne. But they play two quite different games: Hayne is a playmaker at fullback, Slater is excellent at support play. I'm quite sure if Billy was Parramatta's fullback (rather than Hayne) he would be nowhere near the quality he is now.

In a strong team Slater, in a weak team Hayne. Slater can't do everything Hayne can, but he can do everything required of a FB and a bit more consistently and better than Hayne, perhaps not the case in a few years. In a weaker team Hayne can make up for more deficiencies than Slater with his broader skill set.

Umm in that year Slater dominated the comp from round 1, won man of the tournament in the world cup, the golden boot and only missed out on the Dally M because he lost points for Jason Nightingale headbutting his fists. And he didn't lose Australia the world cup, he set up 2 trys for Australia and creates 1 for the kiwis, his contribution in that game was far more positive than negative.

He was pretty consistent that year...
Yeah he did lose Australia the World Cup, regardless of what he did prior he gifted NZ with vital points at a crucial stage of the game. Something that you don't see so much anymore but that was the player he was whether you like to admit it or not.

Technically speaking I'd say Slater is a better fullback. He has it all over Hayne positionally speaking.

However who is the better player? I'd say Hayne, he has the potential to be the best fullback I've seen.

Hayne isn't the only one who could do that.

Marshall, Thurston and Lockyer ring a bell?

You think Benji could do the things that Hayne did in those games?

You think any of those 3 have the brute power that Hayne does??????

In those 3 games he has beaten players with his agility and footwork; he has used his sheer speed to burn people off; has used his sublime skill to put people into gaps; has used his superior talents as a defensive fullback to stop tries; has used his sheer brute strength to bully off defenders and power over the line.

Those guys could do some of the things that Hayne does, but certainly none of them could produce that kind of performance.

Don't worry mate, you'll catch up in a couple of years!

The hatred for Hayne always makes me laugh. I go for the Warriors but get it right, this suggestion that Hayne has been poor for most of the season is absolute NONSENSE.

It seems unless Hayne has an absolutely OUTSTANDING game he's considered to have had a bad game.

Haynes gone good all year. Just because he hasn't had a highlight package season doesn't change that.

I propose most people talking sh*te about only playing a quarter of the season haven't watched the Eels this year.

I'd take Hayne over Slater any day of the week.

I think we're all getting excited watching Hayne the last couple weeks. Slater's been doing it for years, every week in fact.
