It's pretty hyporcritical to keep on coming back to that the squad is full of Mediterranean Descendants, when i'm pretty sure over the last five years, there have been more Aussie union and league players born in foreign countries compared to football. E.g. Tonie Carroll

Every pub and club in Australia was packed with people watching the game. You must have been at home with mummy and daddy.

Every pub and club? Like hell!!!!!

I was actually in the minority that night. I was watching the game - unlike 18 million other Australians. Geez, it really united the nation.

I think Desperate Houswives unites the nation more.

I've been following the sport for 30 years. It's clowns like you that either fail to see the presence of the sport are live in fear that rugby league may soon have an opponent.

Rugby league has three opponents wanker, it just happens to be well out in front in it's heartlands.

Go have a toss over your 2,000 A League crowds.

I smell your fear and it smells very familiar.

Does that mean if you follow soccer, you are winner?

It is a shame that certain elements look at soccer’s improved status of late as a reason to square up against other football codes. I wonder if the soccer community is pulling this same bullsh*t on in AFL dominated Melbourne. The other morning on 2KY a wanker called Bill rang up and tried to discredit cricket as a sport and moved on to say Dwight Yorke was more of an athlete than anyone in the Australian Cricket team. He also said that 15 of his pansy mates watched an A League game at his local Leagues Club (surprise, surprise a Rugby League club). Poor old Bill was losing the argument and started to get personal with both hosts.

It does not matter how well soccer goes in Australia. In the end, all you have is soccer. To most grown up Australians who get to make their own choices, it will still be a non contact football code and Australians will continue to love and appreciate contact Football. Soccer Mums don’t dictate what grown ups do.

One should always have an open mind on matters.

Since when has football been non-contact? I can be a pretty rough sport...especially when up against well built blokes with NFI who go sliding in at full pelt with their studs showing. And then there's the times you go for a header and cop an elbow to the head.

Not saying its as rough as League, but a non-contact sport it isnt.

The mainstream media has been taking the p1ss out of soccer for as long as I can remember. Some of it justified certainly, but enough is enough.

Even with the current WC qualification, there are STILL a few neandrethals who can't resist puttting sh1t on the game.

There is no reason why the codes can't co exist. If soccer isn't a threat, then why has this thread gone on for 8 pages?

I like it how ppl have been saying every pub n club was packed with ppl watching the game, i was at Berkeley sports club with about 300 others, 10 if that were watching the game, then on the was home i called into bi lo and the guy at the checkout asked what the score was, i said don't know, he said, doesn't anybody around here watch soccer?
I said no, this is RL territory.

So much for every pub n club being packed out watching the game.

And if you think RL ppl are giving it to soccer because we are scared, take a look at Big footy, after the game, they whole bloody front page was soccer, page after page, things like, how do will kill soccer, blah blah blah.

A hellava lot more posts and threads than this place, try about 60-1.

Some over 20 pages, so don't put the shyte on RL fans for 1 or 2 threads, we couldn't care less about the game.

I still think the 2 codes shouldn't have a problem co-existing. From what my brother tells me, and he is soccer mad, it's the Union and AFL journos who have been writing the absolute blood boiling sh*te in the paper, since we qualified. From the way he describes it, it reminds me of what English Rugby League fans have to go through.

Was there this much negativity when Australia won the Americas cup?

What about when Ian Thorpe won gold at the Olympics?, when the Wallabies won the world cup? The Australian Cricket team maybe? Cathy Freemans gold in Sydney?

For the life of me I can't understand why the Socceroo's seem to be the only national side in this country that attracts such negativity both in the media and from the general public for achieving something.

It never ceases to amaze me how many naive insular rednecks there are in this country.

f**k me. Im couting down the days till I move overseas where nobody knows Rugby League from twiddylinks, Wallabies are considered animals, and crickets chirp.
