South Queensland Crushers

Not about expansion. Rather the past. Does anyone know anybody who supported them or was even vaguely interested in them? Anyone on here own any Crushers merchandise? Any fond memories of them? Anything Crushers related you wanna share?

2013 thread but still relevant I suppose.

When I moved to Coolum back in 1996, the pub had a massive Sth Qld Crushers sign with an action shot on the bulkhead over the bar, not sure about the support it had in the Sunny Coast region but they had the support within the local businesses etc.

I had lunch at the Crushers leagues club a few times, went to a couple of games, was already a shark but.

There is a chance of Brisbane 2 being viable as potential expansion. Shame the Crushers had to contend with the Broncos officials abusing them, News’s takeover of Brisbane and Super League. They weren’t any good true but a lot of burden was placed against them from the day they were announced.

Went to a few games. Good crowds the first year, averaged around 20,000. Unfortunately just had no success. Plenty of great talent in their lower grades though including Hodges and a young kid on scholarship named Thurston

You cant compare Crushers v Broncos

Broncos had 50-60% of the Queensland SOO team still playing in the Brisbane comp

Plus you had a number of Queensland local people like Bennett return home

I would compare the Crushers to Nth Qld Canberra or Newcastle or Penrith

All took 8 to 34 years for success

Brisbane and Melbourne had huge News Ltd money poured into them

Just think where the crushers and the game of RL would be today if they hadn’t have been killed off. Same goes for the rams and reds. Golden opportunity lost for me.

What else could you call a 2nd team in Brisbane? Just Brisbane? (Bombers).

I reckon if they want Brisbane II then bring the South Qld Crushers back as they were with the mustard n navy.

Hmm I don’t know if theres a good name for a Brisbane 2, I could handle South Qld more than another “Brisbane”, Maybe “river city”... eeek.
