Doull was talking about how difficult it was (drawing on his experience umpiring as a player in lower grade cricket) to shift your attention from the front foot to the action at the other end of the wicket…never mind that we've done ok for 100+ years with the umpire doing it as is.

well that would be my point exactly

we've done it that was from the year dot and its not that hard

I've done plenty of umpiring, not at that level of course but it aint that difficult

LBWs are 22 yards away but no balls are 1 metre away, I really dont understand the problem

Used to be back foot though, which would have been easier...

Regardless, you're right

Good wicket. Another good catch (fielding has probably been the difference in this Test) from Williamson.

6 down. 4 to go.

Yep, Chandimal doesn't strike me as suited to stonewalling though. Thirimanne just about needs to be n/o to justify his existence

Looks like Thirimanne is going to go down with a bit of a slog, as well as running out his partners

Went along for the day on Monday at the Basin, pretty sweet ground, loved being able to go on the field at lunch as well. 3rd day of the series I'd been to, not once did I see Sanga bat :( Kane Williamson showed why he is sucha quality batsmen, he's a pretty good chance to go down as the best ever from NZ the way his career is going at present.

Sri Lanka bowled quite well on monday. They just couldn't get that extra wicket, game would be different if Williamson had been caught on 60 odd though.

NZ certainly have a good nucleus of players at present. The next few years they have quite a few who should be locks, based on current performance

Latham
Opener
Williamson
Taylor
McCullem
No 6/all rounder
Watling
Spinner
3rd seamer
Southee
Boult

3rd seamer is more up in the air because there are a few options. Bracewell may get a bit of a run now, but it is good they have Milne and Henry as young guys coming through. 5 good bowlers in their early to mid 20's is very good.

Craig seems ok, would like to see if Sodhi can develop, but im not particularly convinced by either of them. Rutherford looked very scratchy the other day, Latham a heap more solid, Rutherfords needs work on tightening his technique, so I would say other opener is the most pressing need. Neesham and Anderson i'm also not sure about.

Still, very positive for the Kiwi's, looking forward to see how they go the next couple of years

There it is. Glad Southee picked up a wicket.

Williamson clearly MOM

Watling, Bracewell and Craig with great performances as well.

Superb captaincy from McCullum.
