Sri Lanka tour of NZ

Looks like one bloke from New Zealand rocked up to have a go versus 11 for Sri Lanka. 10 Kiwi blokes seemed like they weren't on the ball at all. Guptill another wicket thrown away, Tom Latham seems a very ordinary one day cricketer, Taylor couldn't hit the ball off the square, Anderson is a pie thrower who if I read cricinfo correctly ran himself out and a couple of other blokes to boot including probably NZ's best middle order bat in Luke Ronchi for a diamond duck... its just a rank poor effort from New Zealand. Perhaps Bruce Edgar made one error for the World Cup, and it wasn't necessarily Elliott, but rather picking Adam Milne over Matt Henry. Henry to me looks test quality. Good seamer, can swing the ball, and frankly at 140 clicks is quick enough that if he gets late movement he will be fairly tough to negotiate.

Latham is young, give him a chance. Henry was unlucky and I'd like to see him in the test team, but Milne is a good voice I reckon he bowled very well without luck in UAE, Henry got all the luck there. Milne just had a poor day, but the main issue was we needed (and should have got) 300 or so today

Boult is the lucky one IMO. Big fan of his - but he offers no wicket taking ability with the white ball. He is the opposote of Geoff Allott.

Yeah, he suddenly became a certainty on the basis of test form... in saying that, in the first game he bowled pretty well without luck...

I think I'd be playing Southee, Mills and McGlenghan in a full strength team, I think - Mills remains a world class ODI bowler, Milne/Boult can play some games to keep those three fresh. Milne might be interesting on Australian decks

I only saw Boult in the second game. He wasn't generating any swing - did he get any in game 1?

I'd go with the same pace line up as you. The 5th bowler is a real headache though - Anderson is cannon fodder on a flat track.

Yeah, he did in game one - was pretty unlucky.

I see no value in Elliott, I'd be tempted to go with both Dan and McCullum, if we do well in the WC the runs are going to come from the top 4 anyway, hopefully Guptill finds some form...

That track, and the conditions in Game 2 were 300+, nothing in the wicket, the collapse in the middle was diabolical

My god Guptill is streaky...

He needs to settle himself... He's a hell of an ODI batsman when he's firing.

Also good to hear Martin Crowe was in the nets working with Roscoe this morning...

Hopefully he comes out and scores a big one for his mentor... He's probably due a big score.

Guptill off to a good start. Hopefully this is one of those innings he has every 6-8 innings.

NZ looking ragged. Fielding is poor and they are very guilty of bowling two lengths. Have grave concerns for how they can squeeze Elliott and Anderson through for 10 overs. Both are not up to it as bowlers.

To back that up Mitchell McClenaghan has dropped probably the worst dolly drop of the past 3-4 years I reckon.

I'd seriously play both spinners and leave Elliott out. Runs have to come from top 4 anyway, or even Play Latham ahead of Elliott and get 10 from Anderson and Williamson

I gotta say all the recent hype behind the Black Caps is looking a bit unjustified.

Their test team has been absolutely outstanding no doubt, but this ODI side really gives me the jitters.
Sure we have lots of "options" but how good are they really?

Guptill and Taylor are awful when out of form, McCullum and Ronchi hit and miss, can't expect consistency from Anderson. Latham looks pretty dodge. Williamson easily our best bat. Elliott is a weird selection.

Then Vettori hasn't played much in yonks, N.McCullum doesn't take wickets. McClenaghan takes wickets but goes for plenty. Boult very unproven, Milne is quick but not much else at the moment. Henry looks terrific but won't be there. Old man Mills shouldn't be there. Most consistent is Southee.

It's really not a fantastic team, lots of potentially good players yes but there is very little previous ODI success in that group.

Ta ta Angelo. They missed Dilshan with a non appeal earlier, not this time. Boys, get your arms bleeding, it makes all the difference for Milno.
