Stalled and stagnant Sydney clubs

I guess that's why Broncos, Storm and Cowboys are three of the six most watched clubs, even when two of them are at the foot of the ladder!

30k ave crowds for Broncos at Lang Park says otherwise.

Queenslanders want to see cities and important regions play football. We couldn't care less about tiny suburbs from Sydney.
Never change!

Despite your spirited defence let’s be honest now

the broncos have been a rabble ever since Bennett left

the cowboys have basically been a rabble since 95

and the arlc had to take over the titans when they went broke and the loan was never repaid

we all talk about 4 or 5 nrl clubs in Queensland but based on nrl history Queensland clubs struggle to keep up with the Sydney clubs

even with all club receiving the same nrl grant the Queensland clubs are still the laggards of the competition

So are you proposing these two clubs get folded?

You also failed to mention Brisbane only drew 6k on the weekend

All we are arguing is that there isn’t a demand for an extra NSW team. It’s pretty simple.

Its not about deserving, its about what's financially viable and what's best strategically for the NRL as a business. Regional cities are good secondary venues/supporter bases for current NRL clubs to grow their customer base but are not somewhere you should put a new club.
SC is now covered at grassroots by Storm and for supporters by Dolphins. Wollongong is covered by Dragons, Gosford is increasingly being covered by Roosters (they need to commit to 2 games a year there and a pre season trial imo). Cairns by Cowboys.
I think it would be good for Dolphins to play three games a year on the Sunshine Coast. Manly can take three games a year to Central Coast. St George can take six games a year to Wollongong. That's a good result for these regional cities and our game.

well Qlders aren;t watching them , the ratings there have fallen off a cliff because Qlders are as fair weather as they come , NSWshmen don't have a chip on their shoulder & genuinely enjoy the sport , not just when their team is on top

Thank god for NSW & its genuine fans eh
as for the 30K average

the crowd of 16740 for the only side in a city of 2.7 Million outdrawn by 2 sydney sides in a city of 200K

says hi 😎

I often chat to raiders fans down here

about these conference ideas etc & how we'd be lumped with the non Sydney sides & they're genuinely unhappy about it

We don't want to watch the Cowboys , Titans .. Dolphins etc in home games down here
nope
We want our boys pitted against the eels , dogs & dragons
our old foes & these rivalries started from day one 1982

don;t under estimate the power & attraction of history & tradition

Broncos got 16k.

I don't know what the Warriors vs Raiders game at Dolphin Oval drew, but it looked a lot bigger than the attendances at Central Coast Stadium when the Warriors were based there last year.

So the people of the central coast and north Sydney don’t want an nrl team ?

Mate, I feel like I have explained this multiple times. You have wall to wall saturation of the game and you are within spitting distance of how many teams? 10? If they are interested in the game, they already follow another team. If they aren’t interested, they aren’t interested in the game. They have made their minds up already. It’s pretty simple.

Go to an area where accessibility of the game is difficult and there is no choice or exposure like Perth or the South Island etc. Those are the people that will make a difference in the growth of a game because if they are interested, or if they become interested, they can actually start attending games and consuming the product unlike now.

We’ll choose your words more carefully

there is most certainly a large bunch of people who want a central coast nrl side. It’s probably close to 600k people

I addressed that point multiple times. I don’t know how I could have made that point any clearer.

Where are you getting this 600k figure from? Are you guessing? There isn’t even that many people in the Central Coast.

This is some crazy revisionist bullshit.

Broncos earn twice as much from their football operations than any Sydney club and their attendances after Bennett left put all Sydney clubs to shame, despite being a "rabble".

Cowboys made the GF in 2005 and 2017 and were premiers in 2015. Between 2011 and 2017 the Cowboys made the finals.

Cowboys are one of the more financially stable clubs and leave the Sydney clubs for dead. The only time Cowboys had trouble was between 1995 and 2002, and that was because those two idiots Arthurson and Quayle made them cover the travel and accommodation costs of all visiting teams across ARL and reserve grade. The instability of entering the competition amid the Super League fiasco was always going to be problematic, especially one that based its protocols on how to keep broke arse Sydney clubs alive at the expense of everyone else.

Gold Coast had the misfortune of entering the NRL just before the global financial crisis. It f**ked their investment in the Centre of Excellence and turned it into a noose around their neck.

Sydney clubs have had up to 114 years to carve out a supporter base and strong financials, yet they've failed at both.

Why would Queenslanders want to watch a couple of suburbs from Sydney play in front of 10k people?

The 16k crowd was on a Thursday night and involved a home team that's been struggling. It's a bit hard for all of Brisbane's 2.5 million people to attend Lang Park on a Thursday night, especially those who live in southern Logan, northern Moreton Bay, western Ipswich and eastern Redlands. It didn't help that the opposition was a lowly club like Cronulla that is the laughing stock of Australian sport.

Realistically when looking over almost 30 years of nrl history the question needs to be asked is can Queensland clubs compete consistently ?

joining a competition of such a high intensity has helped the game in Queensland improve I’m sure but has it improved to be able to match the Sydney clubs consistently ?

probably not

Huh? The Broncos have won 6 comps since they formed. There wouldn’t be many teams that would have won more since 1988.

Again though how many people already follow a side? If they like the game, they have liked it without the presence of a North Sydney/CC side. Inversely, if they don’t follow a side, they don’t like the game. End of.

This point seems hard for you to understand for some reason.
