Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Rey is a Mary Sue.

Finn is black.

Nerds who've written their own Star Wars treatment have their knickers in a twist.

I can't wait to see what the nerd-fraternity make of Poe being a homosexual if the rumour is true.

Maybe a question already answered, but does Mary Sue have to be female? what's the male equivalent ?

I don't see what the fuss is with that skit. I watched it this arvo after it went wild on FB and was completley bemused why it was being raved about, it wasn't a bit funny at all.

I give it 5/10.

SNL has had terrible writing for a long time now.

Saw it for the first time (been road tripping) yesterday. Really enjoyed it.

It certainly came across as a bit of a New Hope clone but I didn't feel that took too much away from the quality, and kind of made a strange kind of sense in giving the new (and old) characters a purpose. I thought Kylo Ren was an excellent villain, young and misguided and still torn up about his place in the world and whether he can live up to what he wants to (or even if he should).

If I have a criticism it's that even though it wasn't a short film, it felt slightly rushed. There wasn't a lot of development in characters like Rey and Finn (which I do fully expect in the next couple mind you). Poe as well. And the story went from 0-100 in a heartbeat. One minute the First Order are looking for a map, then they escalate straight to destroying an entire star system and government we don't even get a look at.

But overall I really enjoyed it, looking forward to the next one

Just read a new theory that Rey is Anakin/Vader reincarnated. Explains why she's so good with the force with no training, is able to beat Kylo Ren with no training, why Anakin's lightsaber calls out to her, why she's such a good pilot, why she's wonderful at fixing things, why she has a deep affection for droids, why she looks like Schmi Skywalker, her visions of the future, and etc. Sorry if this theory has already been mentioned!

Would make for an interesting twist that's for sure.

Hayden Christensen is rumoured to be in episode 8, if that rumour is true, it's possible he could be used as some sort of flashback for rey.

Think how Kylo Ren would feel if that was true. Awkward.

Possible. I kinda want them to move forward with their own tale. Not keep paying homage to the original trilogy. Move away from Vader. Kylo Ren is where it's at now.

And I just read that epic stream article debunking the Huffington Post article. I had to stop at #20 because the sheer stupidity of the Huffington Post writer was making me very angry.

I always just assumed that it would be a similar date to Ep VII

Episodes VIII and IX were scheduled for May '17 and May '19 releases originally I think.

I don't understand why they need to delay them so long. It works with Marvel because they also have individual movies to release in the time between which all continue the same storyline, but thats not happening here. They only have origin story movies scheduled for release which all occur before Force Awakens.

I wish they would have just punched out 3 movies in 3 years ala the LOTR trilogy. Much more satisfying.
