"He's nothing special" in reference to Steve Turner. Well no, he's not.
A "special" player is a player in the mould of Greg Inglis, Benji Marshall, Sonny-Bill Williams and Karmichael Hunt - Turner is not in that company so I guess those posting it are right.
In saying the above, Turner is a young player first recognised by John Cartwright when coaching the Panther lower grades in which before leaving for Melbourne, he was there leading try scorer that season as well in the lower grade competition I think you will find. He was "ear marked" as the "next big thing" though was kept out of grade by the likes of Wesser, Lewis and Rooney.
Make no mistake, losing Turner was a huge loss for our club. He was our fullback and gave us a potent finisher.
26 games, 18 tries in 2006 as well as holding out Jake Webster during the finals series tells you this guy has ability. On the end of a great backline or not, he crossed the line when he had too and that is all you can ask for from your winger/fullback.
