a funny story about the quite carriages.
a friend of mine was travelling home on the train after quite a few beers.
his phone rings
the following conversation ensures

him: blah blah *laugh loudly on his phone etc etc
other passenger: dirty looks
him: more noise and disruption
other passenger: excuse me mate this is a quite carriage
him: well you better shut the f**k up then
other passenger:silent

I was on a quiet carriage once and my phone rang (Knowing it was an urgent/highly important call) I answered it and I talked as soft as I could, some b*tch started yelling at me it was a silent carriage.

I told her, if you were expecting a urgent phone call to find out if your uncle was still alive would you not answer it regardless? She agreed and walked off. 5 minutes later someone rings her and she starts talking at the top of her lungs.

I've sat in a quiet carriage once, there was still annoying f**ks playing music so loud I could hear the exact words of the song. Thankfully I always bring an mp3 player with me if I'm catching a train..

There is nothing wrong with that. I'm relatively open with people but only friends and family get into my personal space. Mind you that is still a lot of people.

Most people I am close to do the hug greeting and farewell.. Has taken a long time to get somewhat used to it..

And even then... Is it really necessary?
