Phelps is big news in America mate. Huge. NBC changed the times of the finals so the yankies could watch him.

I know, which is why it would be by far a bigger deal

Don't know what happened to Trickett but she was no where to be seen in her pet event. Rice needs to give some of our swimmers tips on how to step up in the finals.

Fourth by 0.08 sec.

Give it a rest... she went nuts. And we got Campbell in Bronze.

Pretty easy to say that when Rice competes in a couple of medleys and a relay compared to Trickett's program.
Congrats to Campbell.
And congrats to Grant, the Tunisian was too good.

0.08s is a heap in 50m swimming. Not saying she didn't try her heart out but I and a number of the swimming coaches would have expected more medals than what we have come out with. If we just sweep it under like you have we won't be anywhere near competitive at the next games.

that was a pretty close race, I thought it was between Hackett and Cochrane but the Tunisian came from nowhere it was leading by 1.50 sec at one stage. What a great last 100m, just listening on 2GB commentary, it summed up the race itself how good it was.

Well done to Grant Hackett.

Amazing effort to be at the top of your sport for so long.

an interesting side bar thats worth mentioning , did anyone catch the comments that the tunisian winner has just come back from an 18 month doping violation? not meant to be sour grapes , but always interesting when past dopers come back to win.

Oussama Mellouli was banned for drug taking just 21 months ago.... FINA imposed a 2 year ban on him for taking a banned substance in the lead up to a swim meet.

The cheat got the ban downgraded by, wait for it, claiming that he only took the banned stimulant to help "finish a uni assignment" a couple of nights before he swam.

what a crock of sh*t. A banned drug cheat beats the greatest 1500m swimmer of all time at a time when his mandatory 2 year ban should have been in place.

Disgusted

No he got it downgraded because the drug has no affect whatsoever on swimming. To be an Olympic sport you have to abide by the WADA drug list. In shooting and other sports it will help, but not swimming

It was on the banned list... it's simple - don't take it. He should be still baned.

An international disgrace.

Read the court of arbitration for sport's report you f**king idiot. He got off because they concluded he took the substance to help him study, and there for reduced his sentence based on stupidity and ignorance.

Also, stimulants do NOT help shooting in any way, shape or form. Shooters take drugs made to slow down their heart rate, not speed it up.

Jesus christ do you ever actually research anything before spouting the complete rubbish you come up with??

Sensational swim by Jones. Faster than the Soni by around 1.5 seconds. The US swam faster in all the other legs. Great that Australia won, but I did want the US to win as I couldn't believe the US were paying $3.36.
