Culling Penrith :lol: Lets just hand over the biggest junior nursery in the world to whoever wants it.

1. Penrith was just an example. Similar questions could be asked about the popularity of Cronulla, wests, ect. Are these teams stopping others coming in? Is it worth keeping them ahead of these other teams?

2. I dont imagine a first grade team per suburb is nessisary for junior development. Its not a problem outside of sydney or Brisbane. They put teams in newcastle/canberra/north queensland because fans in these areas have no chance to watch football without them. If you didnt have a Penrith team or a cronulla team you just have to go to the next suburb.

Id argue that youd only lose the die hard fans, the rest would just find new teams.

3. People are saying "its a TV sport anyway". Ok, so you dont need a team in every suburb then. move current teams to where they will get crowds. If youre just watching it on tv, whats the difference between the panthers playing in penrith or in western australia?

Not sure of your point but the fact that Milan has only two clubs seems to be a not very logical argument for having 8 clubs.

Inter avg'd 44,201 and AC 40,876 last season, both clubs have huge revenues bigger than all NRL clubs and the game put together.

Yes Sydney has more fans attending RL across 8 clubs but is that such a good thing when the fans in the city are diluted down by 8 to an avg of 15k?

Of course Inter and AC Milan have vast revenues PR. They're the two clubs in one of the capitals of world soccer....important parts of the multi multi billion dollar business global soccer is. Only the Big money North American sports can hope to compete with soccer financially.

My point was that Sydneysiders actually do attend RL in massive numbers if we compare with other similar and bigger cities. Yes there are 8 ( really 9 ) teams but what do we want? An 8 team league?

Let's be honest. We are a 2 state league with outposts in Melbourne ACT and NZ. We have a supporter base of several milllion people largely based in NSW and Qld. If we want a 16 t0 18 team league that means a lot of teams in NSW where the fans actually are.

And that's the thinking that has kept the game a two state game despite being around hundred years plus.

Again point is not total but how diluted that total is and what that means financially.

I'm actually surprised anyone goes to ANZ stadium.

I went there for a state of origin a few years ago. I was sitting behind the post towards the back of the seating and the deadball line was probably 50m away. I had trouble indentifying the players if the ball was past the 20. On top of that the angle of elevation is terrible and it has almost no undercover seating. They sure are expensive tickets to sit in the rain. And if you want a cheap ticket to sit behind the post you are just wasting your time. I suppose it's good value if you just want to sing and dance with your fellow fans etc tho.

Highest home crowd average of all the Sydney teams.

Highest away crowd average in the NRL

Largest combined crowd average in the NRL.

The two highest home crowds of the year.

The figures don't lie despite the poor showing tonight.

Envy of the League. Pride of the League. The once sleeping giant is finally awake.

Come back when you've got a 5-year average of over 21k, then we can talk.

The only reason you got the highest average crowd was the perfect storm into the final round for the MP... and a whole shitload of Roosters fans.

As for the two highest home crowds of the year... you realise WE hosted easter, right?

Either way, 21k for a finals match on opening night is terrible. We got 36k last year for the same fixture!

yes the crowd was very disappointing .
I was there last night however could not make the roosters game.
I can only assume , the colder night and forecast of rain contributed to fans always planning to watch the game on TV.
Also money only goes so far and fans who forked out last week were saving their money for possible GF and GF qualifiers.
Finally , friday nights generally stinks for a fan's travel logistics to ANZ , versus saturday and sunday afternoon games.

Timmah, your post and comment highlighted showed no knowledge and just biased rant. There were at least 40000 Souths fans at the Souths Roosters game .The balance of crowd would have been a mix or Roosters and NRL fans and Gold members of stadium.

Love the way , you change focus from current year average crowds ( and you also ignore Souths high away crowds as well) to 5 year averages , lol. Like me stating go away and talk Premiership success when your team has won 20 premierships.

All those stats are good n all but that was an absolute woeful roll up from souths fans.

A huge finals match and this is the best they can do?
