I'm of the view that it went back and then bounced forward. Lui's body was facing towards his own goal line. As far as I'm aware, unless you bat the ball back over your head, you can't knock the ball on when your facing your own in goal line.

His arm was between his own goal line and the ball when contact was made. It has nothing to do with which way he is facing.

What's with the touchie getting involved to make a decision, against the cows too coincidently?

They usually just stand mute clutching their flags, but one decides to get involved in a major final as they should in every other game of the season.

This league is being ruined by bad officiating and the BS referrals of every try and the slow down to 10000000000000000000000000000 frames per second to find a finger nail touching the ball, or the slightest of slips unnoticeable by the naked eye or even in normal slow motion. Yet they let shit like clear obstructions go, or make drop ball decisions based on the player involved.

And the NRL are wondering why fans are turning off or crowds aren't increasing.

And that knock on call was always going against the cows once it was called a no try on field. Camera is not in the right position to make a correct decision. Not unlike why forward passes can't be ruled by video.

The point you make about the frame being slowed down is a good one. I have often thought that there should a limit as to how many frames per second the video referee should be allowed to slow the video down to. It has a massive bearing on incidents, especially tries with the whole separation rule etc. Also, I agree with you about touch judges. They're the most useless human beings on the planet. Some of the incidents they have missed this season defies belief and the irony of it is that they're closer to those incidents than the referees! I think in general the refereeing needs a massive overhaul and there needs to be greater levels of accountability over their performances.

It was a knock on, I hate bad officiating as much as the next fan but half the problem is the media and fans trying to turn a good call into a bad call, the refs can't win.

The process is f**ked.

Its a blight on the game. The enjoyment of a player scoring a try is ruined with 4 out of every 5 tries being referred for some bullshit reason.

Leagues losing its support because its killing the fun.

Don't get the backlash. Was hoping the cows would embarrass the roosters right until the end, but that was a blatant knock on by lui, don't know why they even used the video ref. Cowboys had their chances to win it. Thurston passes inside to Morgan and it's all over.

Keep in mind, any of this stuff is prone to parallax error. It is never conclusive.

However, going off by your picture alone, it is a knock on.

The yellow line u drew parallel to Lui's back feet ? Lui's arm is way behind that yellow line given he reaches back to grab the ball. If this is correct, which it is as he does reach back to grab the ball, then it is indeed a knock on given the ball lands on the yellow line.

Arm/point of contact with ball is behind yellow line; ball lands on yellow line.

∴ Knock on.

How have you determined that Lui's arm is way behind the yellow line from that image alone? The essence of this incident for me is Lui's body position. If he is facing his own in goal line, which he is, then how can you knock the ball on (unless you bat the ball back over your head)? Also keep in mind that the ball is allowed to bounce forward as long as it was initially propelled backwards; that is not a knock on.

The conspiracy theory nonsense is just Johnathon Thurston letting off steam because he's frustrated. Without doubt the Cowboys have copped some seriously harsh calls in the finals series of the last few years but its more down to bad luck. Why on earth would anyone in the NRL hierarchy not want a Queensland team to win the comp; its a good thing for rugby league to have teams outside Sydney winning the comp!

Unless you heard or read something that I haven't, Thurston's first comment was that his side wasn't good enough.

The Roosters were the deserved winners. A couple of calls went their way, a couple went the Cows' way, just like any game of footy. 1 point was a fair reflection in the difference of the teams tonight imo.

I didn't mind the last try being reviewed and was the right outcome. However the non call on the obstruction was a good example of the problem with the refs, too afraid to make a call. And how many times did Hayne have to say he saw the ball on the ground for the Scott try, it was like the others weren't paying attention.

Refs need to be able to make those calls in the heat of the moment. Refs will make mistakes and that is inevitable but the process is wrong but the media do go way too hard at them. The last no try is now going to be considered controversial when it was the right call.

I thought that match deserved Golden Point. Cowboys were as good as Roosters were!

Winner of Golden Point would have been the deserved winner.

Simply because using common sense and footage at normal speed suggests he extends his arms backwards past his own back feet to grab the ball, lol

If he is facing his own in goal line, which he is, then how can you knock the ball on (unless you bat the ball back over your head)?

How can you not knock the ball on? If the ball hits his forearm and propels forward off it, it is simply a knock on. Doesn't matter which way a player is facing

For mine the most dodgy call in the game was the penalty in the first half that lead to the Roosters' second try, when I think SBW lost the pill but it was blown up as a strip. Both Cowboys players came out of that tackle genuinely filthy that they'd been pinged while SBW sort of smirked. No replay because a quick tap was taken.

The SBW knock on was the biggest joke, how thats a penalty has me buggered.

I originally thought this as well but watched replay of last 10 minutes on fox sports and by their angle it was a pretty obvious hand on the ball. I didn't see it from before but this time it was pretty clear. Linnet wasn't complaining either

Im talking about in previous years/matches. Do you remember the game against Manly I think it was, early this season when the Cows got dudded and he went of a bit of rant in the post-game interview and made the comment "yeah you sort of get used to that sort of thing when your wearing a Cowboys jersey"?

Must be very very tough for Thurston to take. All the tough calls and some bad luck.

You have to admire what a champion player he is. Never ever stops always comes back fighting harder.
Continues to give his headgear away even when he feels at rock bottom and completely gutted. A good example of how to play for juniors, keep on getting up and fight back always.

The quick tap was from a strip call on Tupou I thought. No idea if it was correct, was completely obscured by he tacklers from my seat

Anyone thinking JT cost the Cowboys the game is the king of delusion. He was the one that dragged them off the canvas and was making SBW look second rate in defense all half. No other player could have got their team from 30-0 down against the best team in the comp. Not Hayne, not Cam Smith.

Cowboys are devastated and they deserve to feel that way. Not because they were robbed but because they came so close only to lose.

lmao what bloody game were you watching?

Cowboys 1st try = Minichello dropped bomb,Ethan Lowe grabs and falls over the line

Cowboys 2nd try = Matt Scott short ball to a rampaging Gavin Cooper

Cowboys 3rd try = Thurston solo effort

Cowboys 4th try = Robert Lui falls on the ball from a wild Minichello pass

Cowboys 5th try = Matt Scott solo effort

Thurston solo try was his only involvement in the 5 tries, lolz at giving him all the credit for the comeback

If Thurston's not there the Cowboys dont come back at all. He contributed in the lead up to the tries a couple of tackles before some of the others put plays on. He was instrumental in that comeback.

dont matter where your facing. if ball propelled towards oppositions tryline, its a knockon ;-)roosters deserved the win, but cowboys nearly snatched the win ;-)
