An aside to this whole thing. Just wanted to take my hat off to Shane Flanagan for his comments in the press conference.

I don't know of any other coach in the NRL who would have in a sense defended Williams for the tackle in his post match press conference. Of course you hear it from the players coach, but not the opposition coach.

Too often these events are just a leverage tool for coaches to push their agendas. Bloody refreshing to see a coach not do it for once.

Kudos Flanagan.

When's the last time a player got sent off for an incident related to the actual play?

Not talking about punches being thrown etc, but something related to a tackle or whatever .. was it all the way back when Hopoate got sent for elbowing Galloway in the head, Manly v Cronulla at Brookvale?

Petero v Bulldogs?

Horrible tackle and penalty is too light in my opinion. If the NRL can't protect players from getting dropped on their heads and risking major injury - then the players may as well pack-up their boots now...

This tackle is completely unacceptable and a clear message needs to be sent. Tony deserves all he gets.....

As I've already said - the tackle was very dangerous and the punishment fair. I am glad noone was seriously hurt.

As a Manly supporter the only positive I can take from the whole situation is that in 7 weeks time Manly will have a player back on the field who opposing players will be genuinely scared of running at.

Fear. Is a good thing to instil in the enemy.

This will be a harsh but necessary lesson for Tony. If he wants to slam players into the ground he'll have to do it without standing tall.

Had he got the tackle right it would have been spectacular and most likely would have forced an error from De Gois.

Although I doubt their was any malice or intent in the tackle, their is always a real chance a player could end up in a wheel chair for life as a result of the tackle. So taking that into consideration I suppose its a fair call.

My only beef is another players can belt a player in the head with all the intent in the world (the hit on Benji) and play the next week . Just dont see how T-rex gets a minimum 7 and that bloke gets nothing. It the system at fault IMO

Good to see how much a round 3 win means to you. Keep a copy of the game to watch in the off season, it might make you happy while some of us are watching our teams play in the finals.

Lol! Would you like some cheese to go with your whine???

So throwing a player is far more sinister than driving a players head into the ground as Farrah did? One gets 2 weeks the other 7 ! Inconsistency already. Couldn't care less if they both got 10 weeks.

DeGois was a miracle from ending in a wheelchair....Williams should be thankful he only gets 7 weeks. Farah's was bad but Willams had more intent to do what he did.

I think it's crap that the victims of the tackle don't get any compensation. He should have been binned for at least 10.

He may not have been pushing an agenda but he may have wanted to keep in the good books with Tony, the Sharks are supposed to be making a play for him.

I dont know if it was the worst tackle I have ever seen but it was certainly the most careless. I was shocked he stayed on the field.

These harsh punishments for getting a player in a dangerous position are good. Either against the Titans or the Storm Brett White ended up getting a player in a dangerous position (mostly the fault of Trav Waddell) and he cradled him all the way to the ground. The harsh suspensions are the way to go because it quite clearly encourages the opposition players to try and minimise damage when a player ends up in a bad position. Which can very easily happen. I mean I am a pretty biased Raiders supporter and even I know that Brett White is a bit thuggish so the fact he cradled the player down says to me players do have it on their mind when they accidentally get a player in a bad position. You can't just fling a player in the air with no control whatsoever.
