not as easy as that dimitri, clubs often want financial guarantees. And should it really be the responsibility of a fan to get NRL to these cities? Surely a multi million $ business like the NRL should by now have a strategy that promotes the game nationally and organises for clubs to link up with growth potential regions to benefit the club, RL in that area and the NRL long term?

Yep having a disillusioned formal TRL official trying to entice NRL Clubs to Tassie is probably not the way to go!

John Sackson is a very clever administrator and has being doing a great job over there.

It is my experience that all "Affiliated States' would be well ahead of where they are now if there had been some serious commitment of funding to them, particularly DOs.

Here in Tassie if we had one each end of the State things would go ballistic. My experience down here is that we have had to knock kids back year after year because of pennies given to us.

It is also my experience that those who are responsible for these things will deny this.

Decide who you will believe.

All the problems we have down here come from a lack of commitment from those who should know better.:?

There doesn't appear to have been any real indication of future funding since the new broadcast deal and it all seems rather improvised at a time when you would expect a serious upgrade to the level of funding and direction in these states.

Rugby League is the only code not to have expanded in the last 5 years, despite getting the biggest increase in its broadcast revenue. One way or the other the game needs to decide what sort of presence, if any, it is going to have in these markets, touch is not a substitute.

What we need down here is a DO now in Southern Tassie and one in another two years up North.

We also need a part-time administrator to manage the media and grow the game as well as a plethora of other duties.

What we got was a Touch manager who will run NRL programs. It is a flawed model as the contact version is being treated as a second class citizen.

I personally know all those still left in the game down here and there is a sense of abandonment our friends at Central will just deny because it suits them.

Launceston Warriors RLFC have folded. Was not necessary but no work was done to save them. Very sad for those of us who put so much time into that Club.

A new Southern side has formed named the Claremont Cowboys. To the best of my knowledge they are being organised by a 19 year old lad.

So we are back to four teams - three in the South and one a four and a half hour bus trip away in Devonport.

I smell a season of forfeits coming up!

why isn't their a team in Tasmania from one of the main football codes- people will say the population isn't there and or the grounds and infrastructure - over 1/2 million live in Tassie and about 200k in Hobart- AFL/NRL are suppose to be National comps and the A-league's plan is also to expand and be a true national comp- Any team in Tasmania will need to called Tasmania whatevers- Im sure a lot of people would get behind a Tasmanian state based team if AFL/NRL/A-League went down that pathway.

Ahh but then you run into the parochial divide down here. I could bore you with the details but the short version is there is insane jealousy down here relating to Hobart and Launceston that destroys any logical attempt to place a national team here.

It has always reminded me of the T'ville/Cairns rivalry in NQ.

Only difference being the NRL gave NQ a chance with the Cowboys whereas the AFL only ever gave Tassie a half-arsed attempt with a team in a 2nd tier comp.

Hopefully the A-League joins the BBL in Tas sooner rather than later.

A couple of League matches here would be nice. We can only dream though I am afraid.

but Tassie do get 6 and soon possibly 7 AFL games a yr.

That divide between north and south makes it more difficult than it should be to form a Tassie team. If you put it in Hobart the people in the north of the state will have no interest. If you put in Launie the people in the south will have less.

stick a team in Tunbridge i say.

If nfl was smart it would play on that by having a tassie league with two conferences and end of season inter playoffs. But seeing as they don't give a sht that is just a pipe dream. Surprised given success of the storm trial game they have t made a commitment to a png term develop e t plan to,include tassie. Surely 3k me,bets wouldn't ne out of question if they played a trial in North and a proper game in South every season? Again NRL should be underwriting and encouraging storm to do this.

Only just saw this thread! El Busto, I too can relate to what you're going through, I actually spend more time (and money!) developing the game than I do on my actual day job! It can get very frustrating, it's almost like an addiction, but there are times where I really am at breaking point to be honest...

I saw a job ad last month for a DO in Tassie, did you apply???

I put in 20 hours a week on top of 50 hour a week job for 5 years mate. It is a thankless task.

Our funding was so poor I used to have to buy stuff on my credit card and claim the money later. The wife did not like that.

The job in Tassie is not a League job. It is a touch football job masquerading as an NRL role.

I retired this year and I am back at work again having a ball and earning a lot more than that role would ever pay so I was not interested in the slightest.

The issue here is that the NRL is not talking to us to see what we want and need. They are just ticking boxes.

When the comp in Tassie folds I will have a lot more to say about this. And I intend to ensure what I say is heard.

Had a nice chat to a mate from the TRL tonight about the state of the comp. The new Hobart Club, Claremont, has about 8 players and only survived last weekends 9s competition through players from other Clubs giving them a hand.

There is only one ref at this time but games will be played both ends of the State nearly every round and there are no touch judges to assist.

That is what I have been told.

I might be wrong.

It is such a shame and all of it is so unnecessary.

Yeah I lived in Adelaide for a few years and trying to promote league down there is flogging a dead horse ... I think Tassie is like that. Confused about why WA get into the game but get on them.

Actually its not like that here. We would have a future if we did not have such a ridiculous process in place managing it.

I have been speaking to those trying to hold it together and they cannot believe what a mess it is. All completely unnecessary.

Yet the Rams crowds were by no means dire and the tv audiences for big games isn't that much lower than WA considering the lack of focus on the game in SA?

A big part of the popularity of RL here is due to the number of people from RL playing parts of the world that have come to live here.
