I think he's saying that Nrown can't play the 'first carry' role, running at a set defence, but then Paulo doesn't do it that much either. Usually it's just RCG, with Paulo playing more like Nrown/Matterson as a ball player. But if RCG doesn't bend the defence then Paulo is capable of taking that second run and bending the line. Nrown (and Matterson) can't.
Oh f**k of, we nearly had closure to this discussion... don't you come in now on your west coast time and stir shit up again merkin....

So our path is now locked

Win - 4th and play Penrith
Lose - 6th and play loser of Roosters v Rabbits
Hardly locked. What if there’s a draw in either game?!? Or we win/Cows lose with a combined differential of more than 131 points? Or Canbra win with combined differential of 123 with a Souths loss or 174 with a Rooster loss?

Isnt the entire discussion meant to be about whether Nrown can do what Maka does off the bench?
This This This!!!

Someone inferred that Nrown can't do what Maka does in the middle from the bench because the former is a Lock not a Prop... Ridiculous argument and it has been deconstructed accordingly.... Goodnight!

Nrown has run like a mad merkin off a drop out countless times over the years.

Isnt the entire discussion meant to be about whether Nrown can do what Maka does off the bench? ... which of course is 15 minutes of trundling slowly into the defense and getting tackled with little chance of an offload, then tackle well
I’m sure he can play Makatoa’s role at least as well, and if he were available I’m sure he would be. I’d say the reason he was dropped was to convince him to find another club. Now that ship has sailed for this year at least he will probably be back when fit.

I don’t think we’ve lost any games this year without Nrown that we would’ve won had he played. But going forward we do want our best team on the park.

it’s interesting to see the assumption that a prop who can “ball play” is able to do it still on the first or second hit up….

rarely is there any “shape” pushing up on these hits…

generally “ball playing” only happens when there is “shape” thrown at the opposition……actually it also applies to the spine too unless it’s a quick play the ball…

Nrown doesn't bend the line all that much, but he does eat up the meters to the defensive live because of his speed over the advantage line, he still commits defenders, and they still have to absorb a fair bit of impact. It's aggression vs size.

I don't reckon Nrown's so much of a "trundler", 'cept on the fourth tackle settler. But yeah, that's the point. Although if you're gonna drop Maka you do want the replacement to offer more, I reckon Nrowns aggression does that, he doesn't just tackle, he hits, and he'll lift the line speed coming off the bench and should be able to do both with more intensity if he's expected to do it for less minutes.

Parramatta Eels (5th, 32 points)

  • Best case: 3rd
  • Worst case: 6th
  • Round 25 game: v Storm (H), Thursday, 7.50pm.
Similar to the above, if Parramatta beat Melbourne in Round 25 they will finish fourth. If they can win by 100 and the Cowboys lose to the Panthers then they can finish third, but let's file that under "highly unlikely" for now. Instead, the bigger concern for the blue and gold will be what happens if they can't triumph over the Storm — potentially falling as far as sixth after sitting third earlier this year.

Here are examples of Paulo playing “lock”:

it was his decision (within our attacking shape), to hit lane or Gutho…

Paulo again, his decision to hit Marata or Moses:

No one's arguing Paulo doesn't ball play mate, he has great hands, and a real nice passing game with a fair bit of subtlety to it. My point earlier was a real simple one, that is that if you're gonna say a lock can't play prop because he's a lock, then it's logically inconsistent to use a prop playing lock to support that line of reasoning.

I feel more confident beating Melbourne this week than I do about knocking over the Roosters or Souths a week later tbh so we need to get this done.

Imagine the shit we will cop if we get knocked out week 1 of finals again.

Interestingly enough Bellamy has traditionally always rested players in the final round and Arthur did so effectively last season also… I’m sure that would of been plan A for both coaches again but with so much on the line it shan’t be happening.

I think i am right in saying, bar ridiculous outcomes, parra will play in sydney week one of finals. Either away to penruff or home to roosters/souths. Which is good.

Then if we play week 2, it will either be cos we lose to the ruff, and it will be a sydney game. Or we will play loser of sharks/cows/storm. So d3cent chance that would be away, but could be sharks in sydney.

The straw that broke the camel’s back 🐪 was Rnd 14, Nathan Brown’s 12th game for 2022 where from the bench he played for 40mins, 5 hitups, 8 total carries for 61m and only 19m post contact. 3 missed tackles. From there he was introduced to reggies coach.

That was 13th June. On 16th June his manager hit up the club for a call on his future. I assume he copped a spray when dropped and had a whinge to his manager. The article suggests that there was some argy bargy and each party’s parting comments were f**k you !, no f**k you ! …⬇️

Makka is a prop. Will Brown replicate the job of a prop on rotation? Computer says no. If we dont use Jake, then August Carty offers more versatility. Brown misses out.

N.Brown is a middle. That's all that matters isn't it? You'd have Kafusi,Matterson,Bryce,N.Brown

They may beat us in the effort areas or up the middle with quick play the balls, but their attacking shape isn’t great or as good as it was……and they take lots of poor options…and their kicking isn’t great…

The key is complete high and limit their time in our half….

I'm worried. We need to stop 3 players
Munster,Smith and Nelson

So locks are props now ? Interchangeable? Cam Murray, Victor Radley say f**k you. Could they are Nathan Brown play prop if they were asked ? Of course, but it would be insane to pick them there if you actually had a fit prop able to play. Makka is definitely an NRL prop, he’s just not in the same class as our starters. Also, he’s not too far off Oregon, so why is the heat never on him ?

Because Kafusi runs like he has been shot put of a cannon and hurts players. Makatoa seems to stroll to the defensive line. No nuts.
