There are players in SG Ball who are better than some of the merkins named in Flegg. Fast tracking them isn’t something you do just because you can, you do it when they’re ready.

I heard a few journos say that clubs named players who were not even eligible or injured, simply because they were required to name 22 on Tuesday.

You may be right, but common sense says we don't waste a spot on Lumelume when we have Dunster and Russell a week or so away.

Intrestingly though Cini and LL have been named as Cup centers while Big Sam L is on the bench.

Has anyone else in the 17 trained at dummy half during the off-season? Do you end up with a weird shift of Cartwright to 6 and Dylan to 9 if Hodgson is off?

Rankin at 1 is laughable, he is old slow and well past it. I know Russell is out but Rankin should stick to coaching. Yates getting promoted over Rein is a positive IMO.

Lumelume at centre over Loizou. Waste of a top 30 spot if he cant make reggies amid an injury crises.

well I for one am very excited to see how that team plays on Thursday. Concerned about cover for Hodgo, but look forward to seeing the back rowers play, as well as seeing Wiremu off the bench. I hope they all have blinders!

I think last year it made sense with Rankin/Russell/halves and Rein/Yates/Hands but I’ll be disappointed if that continues well into this season.
But also them in reggies is fine, does anyone really care that much if they’re up to even that level? They’re there to help the youngsters develop in game. But yes if they haven’t taught them everything by now, how long do you give them?
