French
Hoffman
Salmon
Evans
Maybe even Gower

It's decent depth. Worth being excited about.
Hoffman played 25 games for the Titans the year we signed him, so I'm not sure he was seen as depth. Although he was signed in September. Evans though was signed by early May, so he's definitely not depth. Gower is the definition of depth.

Gower's probably a backup at this stage. That's not the same as a depth player.

Takairangi is someone who was probably considered as depth when signed. So in that sense he's been good value.
I'd say most of our signings are for depth. Arthur seems happy to chop and change the team and let most of his players fight for a spot. The only genuine top 17 players in our squad would be:

Gutherson
Jennings
Ferguson
Moses
Paulo
Alvaro
Moeroa
Mannah
Brown

Only Jennings, Ferguson, Moses and Paulo were brought to the club as top 17 certainties. And even a couple of those middles might get dropped if their form was down. Genuine top 17 players stay in first grade even if their form is down, because even at their worst they're too good for reserve grade.

You have also said Taka is a genuine top 17 player so it will be interesting to see if your theory holds up throughout the season. I sure hope it doesn’t.

And Takairangi (a genuine top 17 player for us who has never played for Wenty) took Edwards' edge forward spot to start the year. Edwards only came into the side after Takairangi was injured against Manly.

He sure seems to have been a genuine top 17 player for us in the past. But with the rise of Niukore, and Lane now at the club, Takairangi has probably become a depth player, like Ma’u.

We'll see, I suppose.

What would Pau pau know about great depth lol. Most of these players were available last year and we finished near the bottom in Wentworthville.

As expected BA has picked Mannah over Kaufusi. Imo a bit disappointing as although Mannah is solid he doesn't offer much in attack whereas Kaufusi is our future. We'll see what Sivo and Kaufusi offer in that Wenty side as I have high hopes for both.

What is puzzling is that Salmon has not been picked at centre in either firsts or seconds. Does this mean he is a failed experiment there? Actually I've seen nothing in him to suggest he'll even be a decent first grade player. Parry is the Wenty centre so we'll see what he does as he has been good so far but as a winger.

We're in real trouble if Taka is our only other centre option. One has to hope Mennings has returned to form or we're a shot duck before the season has even started. BA has had over a season to fix this glaring hole in our roster and done nothing. As a desperate option Parry could be promoted to top 30 but do we even have a spot available?

Penrith will be a real test and a gauge for our team as I'm expecting them to be up near the top throughout the season. I'm interested in how our attack and defence performs against a top team. I don't expect a Parra win but if we can stay close I'll point to a far more successful season ahead, not top 8 but not bottom.

We had heaps of injuries last year, meaning we had very few top 30 players in Wenty at any given time.

That’s the difference between NSW Cup sides. How many full timers are playing for them. If you look at the NSW Cup grand final each team will have about a dozen NRL players. There were times last year where Wenty just had Kane Evans and a bunch of Flegg players.

Oregon is not better than Timmy right now, so why pick him ?

Salmon can't play Round 1, so Taka gets the gig.

Probably because out of the 6 contracted eels players in the Wenty backline, he is the only one that can play in the halves.....

Actually I've seen nothing in him to suggest he'll even be a decent first grade player.

The fact he played NRL in 2018 and wasn’t a defensive liability and showed some attacking ability (yes he didn’t have spectacular debut year) all within 12 or so months where he started in an under 18’s comp, then broke his neck probably indicates he may have some ability ....
