Much better than Quinlan. Started strongly in attack but I thought he faded away sharply.

Of course he faded away as Melb got 5 or 6 straight penalties as did Souths Re: Quinlan the difference being our defence was better against Melb and when we had the ball against Souths Quinlan started coming into the game. I think Witt did his job quite well with few errors if any and his kicking game was sound. His defence was good as well. Clearly he is Prices 1st choice and I'm happy for him to stay there if we start winning games and he continues to do his job. I still hope we resign Williams

Witt is the ideal utility player. I'd rather have Williams at half for an extended run. There is too much chopping and changing at the moment (some of it forced by injury).

Witt has experience and I thought handled things well on Monday night,i have more confidence in Witt rather than Williams atm.
What do you think WittyFan

I was hoping the excuses for Quinlan were over by now.

I was talking specifically of Witt's production in attack, which was the area I worried most about his selection (compared to Williams). The rest of his game was good halfback play and we looked a more settled, well organised unit than the Souths game with Quinlan. The kicking game was much smoother and we had a more balanced attack - meaning the right edge created as many opportunities as the left (in the first half at least).

I would love to see Witt at Hooker and Quinlan / Stanley or Williams at 7 just for a game. Rein has been OK but just interested to see if Witt can bring something else to the table at hooker. Won't hurt.

I do too. I think Witt plays a more settled measured game. I would suggest he adds some level headedness to the team. I'm happy for him to be there at this stage.

I would also be interested to hear what WittyFan has to say.

Agree with all of that. I just think Williams has something special about him and has age on his side whereas Witt has heaps of experience at dummy half and can always play 7 if Williams is getting pumped. I'm worried about the back up hooker/injury to Rein and Witt could well be the solution.

Where are you getting the info that he has heaps of experience at dummy half? I haven't read anywhere that he has actually played in that position. His positions have been HB and 5/8 throughout his career. Basically only ever played 6 or 7.

Witt over Williams for me, for now anyway.
Williams needs to solidify his performances in the Cutters. There is little doubt he is the more natural half, and a bit more dynamic. If he improve his decision making and choices he will force his way in at some point.
Having said that I am convinced that Price sees Style as the eventual 7. I would dearly love to see it happen IF the guy can live up to his potential and improve his resilience.
Is bigger and stronger, defence is not an issue. Does he still have the deceptiveness and silky skills we saw ever so briefly in his sadly short lived cameo appearances? I hope so.

Witt is ok for the time being and we really can't afford to mess around with combinations. Mind you, would like to think that we should be aiming much higher.

Still not sure the long term logic here with Witt.....having said that we do need some wins under our belt even for moral.....so if Williams isn't our long term goal (and I fail to see him growing outside of 1st grade) then why buy him...sounds like Drinkwater all over again......

Agree, Williams has potential. He needs to string a few games in a row and settle into the team. One game every 5 weeks is doing him harm and not showing us his true potential.

On the other hand, we do look well balanced with Witt as half as well. Both should be in the 17. One to cover dummy half and one to start.

Maybe we are misunderstanding the term "dummy half". This "role" can ultimately be fulfilled by anyone on the field as the person who stands behind the play the ball.

The hooker ultimately has a very defined role on the field - one of which is the primary dummy half.

Are you saying that either Witt or Williams - both of whom have never played in the position of Hooker, come on to replace Mitch Rein as Hooker for a period during the game? Not saying it isn't possible - Craig Wing was one player who I think moved from Half Back to Hooker successfully - but somehow we are under the assumption that Witt has played a portion of his career at Hooker. I can't find evidence of this anywhere.
