Under which ideology were these counsellors and psychologists qualified? What are their values and are they really helpful to children?

Kids are more f**ked up than ever these days. Religion certainly isn't for everyone but when it comes to children any religion is better than none. As a society we seem to have thrown out the baby with the bath water.

Yes, Abbott is cutting 25% of the counsellors who happen to be secular. He is reversing what Gillard implemented.

Student welfare officers and similar services are and should be provided by schools and state governments and schooling systems," he said.'

So pastoral care as far as Abbott (and Howard) can only be provided by a chaplain. Those counsellors and psychologists who have found positions within the public school system will no longer receive funding and have to look elsewhere (unless the school can afford them within their NSW Gov payrole or from donations)
