The police and Abbott obviously know a heck of a lot more than they want the puplic to know, just cautious what they say regardless of what things look like in the window

It's true. If you discuss these merkins' motivations you give them more of a voice and play into their hands. It gives them legitimacy, draws support to them, and terrifies everyone else, causing further division.

You don't need to kill anyone to conduct terrorism. In fact terrorism isn't about killing, it's about forcing political change through the threat of violence. Actual violence is only needed when your target audience stops talking your threat seriously.

Anyway f**k these merkins. The cops shut down their drugs business so they become jihadists? f**king imbeciles.

I have no problem with the way Abbott has handled himself in this issue.

And I also have faith in our police force to resolve this without injury or loss of life.

I agree - there is only so much the police can do.

But as long as they handle it properly (and by all reports, they are staying calm and remaining focused), I have confidence this can be resolved peacefully.

Shocking thing to happen, though.

And just on Abbott - according to Nine News, Abbott, Scippione and Baird all kept their cool and said we are being tested and to stay calm. I applaud them for that - I know it's a generic statement to make, but keeping everyone calm (including the criminals) is the best way to resolve this scenario.

So when do people who take hostages and carry out a seige go from being criminals (like those Waco dudes) to being terrorists?

Not sure, but once it is classed as terrorism the military can become involved, if it is criminal they cannot be involved.

If they do get involved the military don't negotiate, they just end things.
