HJ actually made a good point about the membership time limit being put back to one year. About how it simply opens it up to easy stacking by someone who has the money to pay up memberships to back their "vision" or team...

I think three years is excessive, but I wouldn't mind it being a compromise of 2 years - or that is, one full year as non-voting after joining up, plus I guess the part of the second year between when you joined up and the AGM.

Just a quick post and I will be back online later tonight. There seems to be some confusion over which 3P members were there on Friday night. Apart from myself, there was Brett Kenny, Terry Leabeater, Bob Gare, Tony Maroun and we also had Hannah Ireland from the Daily Telegraph there who introduced herself to everyone and is very interested in everything going on at Parramatta lately. John Chidiac was unable to attend due to a work commitment in the city and Rob Sassen had a pre-arranged family-do to go too. So no, John & Rob were not there.

I believe John Chidiac also had a pretty late night, and then had to go straight home. He was at Ringrose watching the games on Saturday. I briefly saw him there with Terry Leabeater before I had to deal with a work matter. The next time the 3P group will be meeting will be this Tuesday evening. If you wish for me to bring anything up at the meeting, drop me a note. Apart from that, the next get-together at Sterlos bar is planned for Saturday 31st January at 12pm. I hope to catch up with you all there.

Some flashbacks to some other points discussed on Friday night:

- How the Leagues Club's primary aim/reason for existing is to fund the football operations. This is apparently in the LC Constitution.

- Football operations would include the Football Club should the NRL responsibilities be moved back there in the future. For the LC to not fund the FC could be taken as against the LC's own constitution, and it is believed that this would need a proper Extraordinary General meeting and an LC members vote on the issue before there is any danger.

- Terry Leadbeater said on a number of occasions this is not about ousting Denis, it's about improving the club from head to toe. However the CEO position was (quite rightly) mentioned as an employee who should carry out the wishes and broad direction of the Board of the day, not the other way around.

- the elected 3P Football Club directors are asking for and (slowly) getting a look at the documents which show the overall club and Leagues Club future plan and direction.

(And so they should imo, because to properly perform their role on the FC Board, they still need to know about how the wider club as a whole (including the LC) works and in what direction that is or has been going. Although people that still believe the FC and/or the LC elections have "little" to do with the NRL side and associated fan relations issues would probably disagree for reasosn best known to themselves...)

I'm a fan of putting the NRL side back under the Football Club responsibility (where it belonged). And am yet to hear or read any argument to the contrary about why it should not be changed back now.

Terry mentioned that to do so now with the necessary AGMs/EGMs etc could take up to three years, and wouldn't be an instant win, but that's OK by me.

I couldn't agree more!!!

The arguement about the LC has to look after its members above all else - and that means they shouldn't be dishing out the money to the FC to look after the NRL team is just crap talk to me ..... if the members of LC are worried about a situation of dishing out money to the FC for the NRL team, then why shouldn't they also be worried about having the NRL team under the LC - cos teh NRL team is just lost money regardless of where it lies - maybe the LC members should be sh*tted off that their LC spends so much lost money on a professional sport team full stop?! .... tbh what teh LC members want should only be a concern in that it helps make money to support the NRL team run by the FC ...... blah blah - i'm rambling

I think it was Jesseel that hit the nail on the head with her idea on Sunday. Floor one, pokies, floor two, food, floor three, FUN. Thats what some people would like to see. Currently it is more like pokies on one, food on two and dead on three.

My wife and I stayed in Parramatta last night and I went to the leagues club to watch the cricket. From 7pm-10pm there was myself and 4 other people there for the whole night, and that was after I had to get someone to show me where it was.

well I kid you not, other than the group of us that was sitting outside talking about the club, there was a couple and and a single person inside at about 9:30...Terry Leabeater actually pointed it out to us.

I'm guessing your including Greg the Barman in those 4 above too. Or are you saying with Greg there and including you & him that there was a monstrous SIX people in attendance.

No Strides, you're not rambling.

It is the attitude that "the pokies are our only source of income", that has slowly been bringing this board down.

The men who have been in control of this club for well over a decade, have done little other than make a few real estate purchases, and generally turn the club from what was once a major night spot in Parramatta to a low grade casino.
No wonder Denis screams so much about the pokie tax, as that is what he has based the income on so heavily, justifying his annual (club funded) trips to gaming conferences.

When I turned 18, and it was legal for me to visit licenced establishments, the club was a hub. Great bands, a packed auditorium most weeks. The pokie areas were full. The Old International Reastaurant was a place where people wanted to dine. Eventually, kicks took over and still it was packed week in and week out.
The joint was a place people wanted to go to. It competed with others like Castle Hill RSL, The Collector, and Stallions. There were others before that, and others after, and still, it held it's own.

It was a desirable, and popular place to go.

As other people have pointed out, the amount of people at Sterlo's on Friday night could be counted on two hands, and that was without the organised attendance. My guess also, is that the auditorium doors were probably locked, and the lights turned off.

TBH, I think it is a f**king disgrace that the club has been turned into an Asian gambling and food hub.
And, don't even get me started on the Hall of Fame FFS!

Parramatta District Rugby League Club??........my arse it is.

The day they forbid Eels jerseys into the club after the game, was the day they lost all credibility.

They should hang their heads in shame.

And I remember going to the sea eagles club before the final in my rabbitoh jerseys.

Probably as a fair estimate say 20% were wearing their jerseys. It was colourful, homey and a nice atmosphere.

A lot of clubs have lost their way. They are now pretty much all focused on relieving patrons of their hard earned and they make you dress up for the privilige. Its OK for the doorman to look like they are attending a wedding, but this is the real world.

A lot of professional people wear crap clothes on weekends and during leisure because they get sick of dressing up for work.

I go to clubs to meet people and often on weekends etc all the nice spots away from the bandits are taken up already.

There is virtually no activities for anyone under 30 other than gambling or watching sport on a big screen. Darts, bowling and pool take time to learn.

A whole generation are coming through playing video games on TV etc but the clubs dont cater for this. Ive never seen the internet in a club either.

The bands are often pretty awful, not much thought in attracting young women.

And they hire these guys who peaked in the 1960s to run raffles and Ive seen prizes that are ordinary groceries.

The clubs need to realise that people are intereted in things other than gambling, eating the chef specials and drinking.

And ffs I dont want to watch a european soccer cup-tie with bidelonia v mansuria with players on 2 million euros a game. They still miss goals.

Good post suity, take a bow for the inspiration.

You've all just given me inspiration to start a totally different thread regarding the Leagues Club and ideas for what to do on each level, but more specifically Level 3.
