Keith Barnes - A great player but not in the same class as the present immortals so no.
Norm Provan - A giant of the game in every way. Very, very worthy.
Ken Irvine - As with Provan and he did his incredible try scoring feats with the bears. Imagine it he played for souths or st george in that era.
Mal Meninga - 4 kangaroo tours, 3 premierships and an awesome sight in full flight. That said not as good as Others in this list.
Ronny Coote - forgotten man of this list, many of the old boys rank him the equal of Raper. Won't be him but he'd be worthy.
Paul Carige - redneck
Brad "Freddy" Fittler - great player, but I always feel there was a period of 5 years or so that he didn't play to anywhere near his potential.
Andrew Johns (is he eligable yet?) Great player anyway you look at it but let's judge him in 10 or 15 years time.
Alfie Langer - I'd put him on the same level as big Mal.
Cliff Lyons - excellent player but not even close to an immortal.
Ray Price - tough as buggery but not as good as Coote and others so no.
Peter Stirling - loved snorkel growing up and his record says it all. Probably a rung or 2 below the greatest players.
Owen Craigie - poor man's GI.
Arthur Summons - a great player from his era but not as good as others from that time.

I'm a fan of the immortal concept but not it's process.

A question that will get the sea eagle fans frothing at the mouth: if Bob Fulton hadn't been named in the original 4 would he be looked on now as worthy now?

AG I'm not a Filth fan but I will weigh in on this one for you anyway.
I have always maintained that Fulton is the best RL player I saw play at the peak of his career. Mesmerised defences, single handedly ripped 'em to shreds. A loathsome human being then and now, but an awesome player.
I saw Langlands and Raper play, and Billy Smith who is my all time 'favourite' as he was a childhood hero. However with Langlands and Raper I didn't see them at the height of their powers, Fulton I did. A deserved 'Immortal' in my eyes as far as the concept goes.
I pride myself on not letting club or state fealty colour my views on what I perceive as ability or lack thereof. In such vein I rate Wally Lewis, Daley, Stirling and Billy 'the grub' Slater as amongst the best I've had the pleasure to see.
And also the next deserving 'Immortal', Andrew Johns.

You've never seen him play but would call him an immortal?

:sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

Yep, in a heartbeat.

I never saw Messenger play either but I'd happily call him an immortal.

Have a look at the bloke's record as a player and a coach for a start.

Stick to f**king up tips you nong.

Should be on the list.

The hardest halfback ever to pull on a jersey.

Is this going to be a public vote or will it be a decision of a select few? We should be able to vote by FB.

Why would it be Meninga? Give me Steve Rogers over Big Mal every day of the week.

And since when did Darren Lockyer become Immortal material? He was a great player, but in no way better than the likes of Laurie Daley or Alfie Langer. In fact id take those two over him any day.

The Immortals title should be reserved for the true, untouchable legends - namely Norm Provan, Ron Coote, Peter Sterling and Andrew Johns from that list.

And if in 20 years time, names like Lockyer, Fittler and Daley still hold up then give them consideration.

Which statement did you not agree with?

Rogers being better than Mal or Alfie & Lozza being on a par with Darren Lockyer?

You were going so well up until that point. Sterlo was terrific and the best of his era but not in the same class as Joey. Rogers > Meninga, hell, I'd even take Gene Miles over Big Mal on the field but I guess he gets some points for his longevity, recovery from four broken arms and his success with the Qld Origin side, same as Provan scores for his success coaching the Dragons. Or is it purely about playing ability?

Agree completely.

Dave Brown has to be about the least spoken about legend in any sport. The bloke was League's Don Bradman or Babe Ruth, yet most people who would call themselves league fans wouldn't have a clue who he was or what he achieved.
To this day, I cannot recall anyone other than Dave Brown, who single handedly dominated the competition and decimated his opponents the way brown did in 1935

Some Dave Brown club stats from 1935 for you all:
Round 1 - Easts 14-5 Newtown - Brown 1t, 1g
Round 2 - Easts 16-8 St George - Brown 1t, 1g
Round 3 - Easts 23-16 Wests - Brown 1g
Round 4 - Easts Bye
Round 5 - Easts 61-5 University - Brown 2t
Round 6 - Easts 87-7 Canterbury - Brown 5t, 15g
Round 7 - Easts 57-9 Norths - Brown 4t, 4g
Round 8 - Souths 18-11 Easts - Brown 1t, 1g
Round 9 - Easts 15-2 Balmain - Brown Didn't Play
Round 10 - Easts 40-10 Netwown - Brown didn't play
Round 11 - Easts 16-13 St George - Brown 1t, 1g
Round 12 - Easts 27-12 Wests - Brown 1t, 3g
Round 13 - Easts bye
Round 14 - Easts 40-5 University - Brown 4t, 5g
Round 15 - Easts 65-10 Canterbury - Brown 6t, 10g
Round 16 - Easts 53-15 Norths - Brown 4t, 7g
Round 17 - Easts 21-9 Souths - Brown 2t, 6g
Round 18 - Easts 53-13 Balmain - Brown 6t, 7g
Semi Final - Easts 15-10 Wests - Brown got injured during the game
Final - Easts 19-3 Souths - Brown didn't play

Season summary - Played 15 - 38 tries, 62 goals, 238 points

His try tally for the year has never been surpassed.

Nor has his record for most points in a game, which stands at 45 in the 87-7 win over Canterbury (5t, 15g).

His points tally for the season lasted until 1969 when passed by Eric Simms (who played 24 games and scored 265 points)

From memory he played around 85 games for Easts, scored 93 tries, 191 goals for 661 points.

Just epic!

His ability to score points is just mind-numbing.

We're lucky to see a player score 5 tries once or twice in a decade, he did it 3 times in a year!

Steve Rogers was a more talented player than Mal Meninga. That seems to be the opinion of almost anyone ive ever talked to who had the opportunity to see both in full flight.

Rogers wuldn't look out of place in an all-time post WWII XIII, alongside Reg Gasnier.
