Moga.
Langer was easily Johns' equal, and in some aspects better. (note, I is a Dragons fan and bitterly remember the 92-93 GFs).Andrew Johns is the greatest halfback of all time. When QLD and NSW were relatively equal and both had Joey and Lockyer at the peak of their powers, guess which state was doing the ass whooping.
Then Joey retires, we haven't been near them since.
It has to be Andrew Johns for the "Immortal" system to be taken seriously.
/thread.
+1... very well said. And in the end, the Immortal idea has drawn a line so damn thin it's almost impossible to have any crediblity to the list.
I mean how much better was Wally Lewis than Brett Kenny? A whisker? Yet Lewis is an Immortal and Kenny is just a 'great' player?
I'll think the same when Johns and Lockyer surely go in. They were great, but 'Immortal' greater than Langer, Stuart or Fittler?
Too damn thin a line. Perhaps a brand new hall of fame with an 'Immortal' wing or something. 4 inductions every year with one headline immortal induction. It should not be so exclusive that 1 player every 5 years gets in, but 1 every year.
example 2015 hall of fame ceremony.
Inductees
Cliff Lyons
Terry Lamb
Shane Webcke
Immortal inductee - Mal Meninga
Why? We never had to wait that long for Fulton or Lewis.Andrew Johns (is he eligable yet?) Great player anyway you look at it but let's judge him in 10 or 15 years time.
Totally agree. I reckon the concept survives because the fans and the code overwhelmingly accept it. It certainly aint official and it's credibility is SERIOUSLY compromised with Hadley and Slothfield on the panel!I'm a fan of the immortal concept but not it's process.
No, simply because of the Wally Lewis hype. Bozo was epic though, with a better player/coaching career than anyone else. Now he's a gimp on a stupid radio show - and that is how he was viewed. FFS he captained City at 19!!!!!A question that will get the sea eagle fans frothing at the mouth: if Bob Fulton hadn't been named in the original 4 would he be looked on now as worthy now?
See my thoughts above re Beaver. Meninga was a has been on his last tour and only picked because the ARL was into manufacturing sporting greats. Who remembers his last test in Australia, v France at Parramatta, when Arko proclaimed him the greatest player of all time!!!!!and his 4 kangaroo tours and being the QLD and Oz captain .......and.....and
Agree. Sludge playing for a to club at the time would be spoken of higher than he is.Steve Rogers was a more talented player than Mal Meninga. That seems to be the opinion of almost anyone ive ever talked to who had the opportunity to see both in full flight.
Rogers wuldn't look out of place in an all-time post WWII XIII, alongside Reg Gasnier.
Completely agree Bobby. Daley will always be NSW (c) in an all time blues side. Amazing leader. Defense of a second rower, Running game of a fullback, agility of a centre and ball skills of a half. He was a great, great player and i rate him above Fittler and Lockyer as the greatest 5/8 of the last 25 years.

Rogers and Cronin>>>>>>>>>>>>Meninga
How many blokes
Played for a record amount of games for one club?
Played for state and country.
Captained both.
Captained and coached premierships, at the same time.
Team of century, NSW and AUS.
The thing is he should already be there, no debate for me, easy choice.

The best halfbacks I've seen play are Langer, Johns, Stirling, Stuart. In that order.
Anyone who has seen a player better than Joey must have taken more drugs than Joey. Heather had about half his skills, and never took the line on nearly as much - hence his longer career.
And if you don't want to take my word on it you can ask my dad. He is 53 and says Johns is the best he has seen, with Lewis not too far behind. He says they were both freaks of football.
