Steve Rogers was a more talented player than Mal Meninga. That seems to be the opinion of almost anyone ive ever talked to who had the opportunity to see both in full flight.

 .......I take it you've never stepped foot into Canberra or QLD?

Count me in as one of the ones who will laugh at you if you ever do.

That's like stepping into a union meeting to poll people on whether ALP or Libs run a better government.

The Immortals topic always opens up a can of worms because it just goes Johns, oh what about Lockyer, oh what about Sterling, oh what about Fittler, oh what about Langer, oh what about Stuart, oh what about Daley.

Personally i love the game and i count some absolute tragics and historians of the game amongst my friends. Irvine, Provan and Coote are the three names that i often hear as deserving of Immortal status. I agree it's a joke list anyway since players like Brown and Messenger aren't eligible.

How can Andrew Johns be considered to be bestowed as one of the games Gods 5 years into retirement when Dave Brown 70 years into retirement isn't eligible. Laughable.

And in the end, the Immortal idea has drawn a line so damn thin it's almost impossible to have any crediblity to the list.

I mean how much better was Wally Lewis than Brett Kenny? A whisker? Yet Lewis is an Immortal and Kenny is just a 'great' player?

I'll think the same when Johns and Lockyer surely go in. They were great, but 'Immortal' greater than Langer, Stuart or Fittler?

Too damn thin a line. Perhaps a brand new hall of fame with an 'Immortal' wing or something. 4 inductions every year with one headline immortal induction. It should not be so exclusive that 1 player every 5 years gets in, but 1 every year.

example 2015 hall of fame ceremony.

Inductees

Cliff Lyons
Terry Lamb
Shane Webcke
Immortal inductee - Mal Meninga

I can't understand how Laurie Daley keeps getting completely ignored when lists like this come up.

Back in 92 I got this RLW top 100 players of all time mag. I read it cover to cover multiple times. I actually still have it sitting in my old basement. Churchill was 1, Raper 2, Gasnier 3, Messenger 4, Langlands 5, Brown 6 and so on...

Laurie Daley was rated at number 50. He was 22 years old at the time, and hadn't reached his peak yet. Bradley Clyde was 33, Mal Meninga 13. IMO by the end of his career, Daley was the greatest ever Raider so RLW should have him a lot closer to the top 10 and ahead of Mal.

After that magazine came out, Daley captained 3 straight Origin victories in a row for NSW. Won a 3rd premiership, and won numerous awards.

There's been a few players on par with Daley since he retired but not many. I'd place Laurie Daley in the top 5 players of the last 25 years.

He's definitely better than Darren Lockyer!!!

The immortals are from post-WWII.

If it were from 1908, the list would be very different and much longer.

You're right I forgot about that.

We really need a rugby league hall of fame. I'd also like to see the NRL do what the NBA did and have a greatest 50 players to ever play the game. There's more than 7 great players, we all know who the elite are anyway let's recognise them.

Completely agree Bobby. Daley will always be NSW (c) in an all time blues side. Amazing leader. Defense of a second rower, Running game of a fullback, agility of a centre and ball skills of a half. He was a great, great player and i rate him above Fittler and Lockyer as the greatest 5/8 of the last 25 years.
