Perhaps RL has affected the growth of RU in some way when poaching players but to knowhere near the extent that RU has gone out of its way to limit and stop the growth of RL!
This is what must be looked at and talked about.
The repression of RL on a world stage is far more reaching and evident than any ill tactics toward the game of RU.

Why is this so?

Yes, the friends in high places of RU(multitudes courtesy of private school/wealthy bias) have enabled such a repression of RL, but this should not be seen as a thing to be expected . It is downright deceitful and has negated the growth of another sport which I believe is far more attractive and democratic for all participants.

The shame is that this sort of repression of RL is well hidden and not discussed by the general public. I believe that even RU biased people, if informed would view the sport of RU in a different way as well. It's something that needs to be openly discussed and told! Simple as that!

RL will have a successful world cup this year despite the obstacles put in its way. A credit to how good the sport is!
To simplify the argument a code of rugby that has on average about 600 tackles(therefore runs)(RL) per game compared to 180 tackles per game(RU) should be far more well known and accepted worldwide. This is not the case.

The reasons are being discussed in this thread!

You really are deluded... You think the only reason RL is not universally successful is because of Rugby's "Friends in high places" keeping it down... That is pure insanity.

IF that is the case, why in Australia, where Rugby is the no 4 sport does League only get less than 4.5 million out of 22odd million people watching its top games, why in NZ, where League has prime time TV, are viewing figures going down? The IRB cant stop people watching TV, no matter what you say.

The simple answer to both questions is that not everyone likes League... like anything on this planet its about taste. Some people like League, some like Rugby, some like both... but not everybody thinks League is a great or even good game. THAT is the reason why League is not universally supported, not some ludicrous conspiracy theory of yours.

Same suspects are still ignoring the real issue!

You may call it shit but it has negatively affected RL for many years and it should be discussed and exposed!

You dudes can wallow in your ignorance for all I care.

At least you are consistent.

Just read your joke of a post:
Do you think that the Warriors relatively poor showing had something to do with TV ratings? And from what I've heard is that the NRL is only televised on Pay TV in NZ.
I'd be surprised if that is not the case.

You call it "conspiracy theory". These are facts we are discussing so go back in your hole you troll!

So you are an idiot.. You post your "facts" without even checking... its no wonder you are widely considered stupid in this forum... you "heard"??? thats pathetic.

The Warriors poor showing WOULD have something to do with the ratings, once again peoples TASTE how a sport is fairing, not your stupid conspiracy... And for your uneducated knowledge, ALL NRL is shown Live on NZ Pay TV as well as the Warriors, and the Warriors are again on delayed on FREE TO AIR tv... And just to be clear Pay TV has a much wider coverage in NZ than AUS, it?s in over 50% of homes, with sky most of that.

And you failed to answer why the highest rating Aus figure for league in a country of 22odd million is about 4.5mill? can?t be the IRB responsible for that.

Well I see that rugby league is now flourishing in Thailand, with players in the national team from seven or eight local clubs. The Bangkok Bangers, for example.

So I guess there must be no RU people in high places there.

Fantastic what can be accomplished in such a short time when the establishment is not against you. There've even got a player from the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, which is about as establishment as you can get in the Thai sporting landscape. Rugby league at the RSBC. Who would have thought it possible?

I think MU is just looking at this whole thing from the outside as a neutral party. He is basically saying 2 wrongs don't make a right; which appears to be the sentiment that others are expressing. MU is by no means justifying any actions taken by the RU, or RL for that matter. Merely stating that whilst RU went to extreme measures to extinguish what is RL, they did so out of retaliation to their player base being under fire and what may have been an interpretation to try an eliminate their code.

Did RU over-react? Quite possibly. But don't mistake MU's post as a defense or attack to either party. The broader picture is both parties played their part and no one is free of any wrong doing. One just happened to have friends in very high places.
Thank you.

And you continue to ignore facts which show the whole picture.

The only people as belligerantly ignorant as you are those who deny that the holocaust happened.

You know the answer to this wambers....

There are too many ... let us say... nubile distractions for RU types to concentrate on RL in Thailand.

You practiced accounting in Thailand before HK didn't you wambers?

MU.

I have not denied the miniscule amount of dubious tactics against RU that have been from RL actions. (even though these actions did not aim to eliminate a competitor as distinct form the RU actions toward RL)

I am clearly emphasizing that their is far more repression against the code of RL than the other way around.

That is purely it!

Nothing else .

And this massive amount of repression should be acknowledged and emphasized to the extent it deserves. Not to be seen as a tit for tat contest.

It is immense the obstacles that RL has had to endure and the many posts within this thread pointing to the many examples of repression against RL are facts that should be discussed , aired and known to the general public.

And your posts are that of a TROLL!

So instead of answering the questions I posed you insult instead.. is that because you finally admit you are unable to answer those questions as they show your argument to be as devoid of reason as you seem to be yourself.

So why have you been hell bent on trying to pigeonhole me as some form of Union apologist all this time then, when all I was simply doing was revealing a bigger picture?

You are adamant that I have denied there has been any repression against RL, which is a lie that you have failed to prove when asked.

You have been hell bent on ignoring the acts committed by RL against RU. As I have said ad nauseum, they are few but they exist.

As I have also stated, you cannot simply ignore these as belligerently as you have, because these acts by RL caused a reaction of similar or larger proportions by the RU against RL.

That in turn means that RL is partly to blame for some, I stress SOME, of the acts committed by RU against RL.

Which is why I was saying ad nauseum that you need to know both sides of the story to get a full understanding of the actual repression. You cannot, EVER, take on an argument and completely ignore half the story, such as you have done, time and again.

You bang on about friends in high places for the RU yet completely ignore the fact that RL had the best of friends in high places when it first started in Australia, much higher than their RU counterparts.

You bang on about school programs, but completely ignore the facts I provided regarding RL's infiltration into Catholic Schools in Australia in its first decade which was an enormous boost to RL and an enormous detriment to grass roots RU.

I am not apologising for any side, because both have behaved poorly, RU moreso obviously.

But that doesn't make RL's actions just or entirely innocent like you seem to believe.

RL's repression is largely its own fault for not having a strong enough governing body worldwide, which has always been the case. If they had one, they would have been able to defend their game in emerging nations much better, instead of letting them crumble without a fight.

Incidents like what happened in New Zealand to the touring NSW RL team of 1912 are examples of RU's actions against RL which still exist today (double booking venues, hijacking seating at the venue etc).

What happened in France is not an example because its so extreme, that it had never happened before or ever since. You cannot understand this.

Furthermore, what happened in France was not the doing of Rugby Union as a whole, but of a discredited, unaffiliated shambolic organisation who had been cheating the game by being professional, whose game was so violent it lead to the deaths of at least 4 players which saw the country banished from international competition. The French RU was dying and losing relevance and despised by all other RU nations at the time. Hence, it can never be considered as an example of RU's repression of RL, it can only be seen as an example of the despicable, immoral, hypocritical, despised nature of French RU at the time and nothing more.

The fact you can't understand that is disturbing.

I can understand your dislike for RU, its a crap, dull, boring, painful game.

But when you are dealing with historical facts and evidence, you have to remain as unbiased and open minded as possible, which you have shown quite adamantly that you are incapable of doing.

Moving forward, the only way for RL to grow and overcome the antics of RU bodies around the world is to focus on improving its competitiveness and local competitions. Having people focussed entirely on their biased interpretations of past events will never move the game forward.

Bitching and moaning about the past will not solve any problems in the future.

RL doesn't appear to be suppressed by Rugby Evil there either.

Well you are quite old, comprehension does seem to fall away during a seniors moment.

Mate, I know one thing. I have forgotten far more about sport, life, just about everything, than you will ever know. And I am still smarter than you.:cool::cool:
