I reckon that the AFL guy is today’s scapegoat. It’s like saying that bc Hayden Knowles works with high jumpers, that he has no idea about preparing a footy side.

These guys are all degree qualified physiologists and are more than capable of adapting their skills.

A quick search - Storm; strength guy came from Malaysian Track Cycling team. Fitness guy comes from athletics.

Well we look well of the pace compared to last year, we can't blame the heat this week was it too cold instead??

Ronnie copped it deluxe with his outdated methods but look how the Tigers are going then look at us. We look a dogs breakfast ATM.

So it’s fitness and nothing to do with attitude?

I recall after 6 rounds last season how desperate thinks looked. Im prepared to hang in. Ive been conditioned over the years. Lack of footy over the pre season develops excitement and optimism. Its my own fault. Ive had suspicions BA may have some failings during his time as coach but improvement is expected. While his skill and dedication throughout the salary cap saga cannot be questioned, there does remain doubt over his actual footy coaching. What he has done for our club has been phenomenal under horrible circumstances. Im of the opinion BA would make a magnificent Head of Football in the Gus Gould mould. If we do opt for a change of coach it must be thought through thoroughly.
No Haslers or Maguires and no Caylesses etc.
No disrespect intended. I think the club does indeed need to start considering the future. Having said that, maybe it has as indicated by not furthering BAs current tenure.
BA is no fool. He would very well be aware of what results are required and if he wasnt getting those results he would most probably put his hand up.
We are a professionally run club now days. I cant see retreating performances being tolerated but we are also, I believe, not about to panic in the short term.
Just my two bobs worth.

As I’ve said before I like BA but he’s stuffed up with recruitment this season. Had too much faith in his team from last season and recruited very poorly. We look unfit and very light on against bigger teams. I had doubts before the season started about our forwards etc but never thought it would be this bad.

TBH I reckon a lot of blame can be pointed at him. Not necessarily because he’s from AFL but mostly because so far he has failed to make us fitter or stronger. At best a couple of the guys are faster

My two cents- our forwards did a good job last night. They managed to get us into good position, with no help from the referee at all (our first penalty was 50 minutes in, ffs).

Our halves let us down, imo - time and time again, they took the wrong option, and released all pressure from the Sharks.

I think it's a combination of both, we look slow and off the pace.

Nothing like we did in 2016 when it was the fittest i had seen an Eels team in well over a decade.

Agreed. I remember there was a huge emphasis on wrestling strength in the 2017 preseason but I can’t recall a single mention in the recent preseason. That could be why we are getting massacred in the ruck, which is leading to our ill-discipline. An AFL strength and conditioning coach would not know a thing about league wrestling and the kind of strength/effort required to effectively do it repeatedly.

I thought we were alright and Sharks were just terrible. Mofos kept kicking penalty goals like its Union.

However, we need to fix our goal kicking. That's a priority. We end up losing by 2 points one of these days.

Imo, the Sharks were good - but we defended really well.

Fifita amassed plenty of metres, but it took him a lot of runs to do so, because we smothered him all night.

I was impressed with our resilience in defence.

Our attack needs a lot of work.

Fafita was good, but I would like to have a bit of a dig at these 120kg tough guys who get accolades bc they run at halfbacks all day.

Corey Norman once again had a shit game. Moses was also poor. Auva’a was the only back that deserves his spot next week. I thought he was solid at centre.

Cameron King is a plodder. Again he ran from dummy half searching for his first NRL try. The less said about Kane Evans the better.

In the forwards Alvaro as always was relentless in defence. He made over 50 tackles and Brown and Edwards were good. I didn’t think Mannah was too bad.

Mau is garbage now. Still runs some nice lines but he doesn’t punch through the line with any power anymore.

There needs to be about 6 changes but there will not be because I truly believe our one dimensional coach is the problem. He is a very poor attacking coach which is why we have always been a bad attacking team under him. When was the last time we put 40 or 50 on a team under his coaching?

Except for Gaelic football and the greatest sport ever was a result: international rules!
How do you somehow make AFL more shit??? Somehow mix it with another geniused sport. It's about as good watching the Eels attack ATM.

I think after last week the boys were definitely ‘up’ for yesterday, they put the bodies on the line a lot more in defense and we had much better to forward.

But I think it was clear that in the wet conditions we were worried about throwing the pill around so played very basic structured footy which the Sharkies defended comfortably... I think with 20 mins ago and when we hadn’t looked like scoring the call should of come from BA to try some things and at least have a crack at them.

I honestly think the team was scared that they would get another touch up and we more played to keep the score close then to try and win the game, which is pretty piss poor.

Also the Sharks were quite average imo so shows where we are at.

Tbh, I thought Fifita was a non-entity, because we shut him down.

Cronulla's best forward, imo, was Matt Prior.

But I was very proud of our defence - showed some real character.

Is it too late to jump on the “it’s the coach’s fault bandwagon”?
And by that I mean signing that AFL bloke. I believe conditioning is the root of all our woes

Well there was word the Giants were very happy to get rid of him.
I think it was a massive mistake getting him in, just look at our round 1 injury list and we have 6-7 players out already.
Not sure why we had so many just from preseason.
