Simmons? FFS he is joke.

I watched St Helens Vs Wigan the other week, Gidley Vs Carmont.

Id take Carmont back first.

Carmont looked great and grabbed a great first try.

Simmons is pretty bad, he would be last one my list of blokes to get.

I mean we have Lulia, even id have him first.

Bad news on Sa. He is a rooster till the end of 2012. It is in their forum. Well the Dave Simmons thing could have more legs than we think. Hope I am wrong

Maybe Smith is gonna sign Matt Geyer. Lol with Mad Dog it'd be the oldest baldest centre combo ever.

And what might young Aku have do do with things Roops (aside from us having to re-sign him again next year) :p

He's the classy backline player we actually need to fit into the team - better than anyone i've seen mentioned so far.

Sounds like a plan :D

I hope it all clicks for him next year, I think he's getting very close.

From what i have seen of Uate, putting him in the centres would be a monumental failure. The bloke has the tackling technique of an under 12, and he will have massive traffic run at him. NRL coaches pick on one side to hit over and over again and if your centre on the side that is being hit isnt up to it you get flogged. It may have been ok to do that 15 years ago but the way i see centres these days they are first and foremost defenders.

He is a Winger or Fullback long term from what I can tell, but if he is to go anywhere he needs to improve his defence %300. I enjoyed his runs in first grade this year, because he has the agility of a cat, loads of strength and speed but having the physical attributes alone has never been enough in this game.

Agree 110%.

There's no way in this lifetime a coach like Brian Smith who loathes defensive liabilities will consider him in the centres for the NRL.

Certainly not unless Uate's defensive improvement is of some miracle proportions.

Ahh come on, Super Speed Simmo is tops, 100 first grade games.

Come one you know you want Simmo, (cause I don't)

As opposed to the other 15 coaches in the comp? Here comes Karma's inevitable response for response's sake!:sarcasm: Oh and of course the completely gratuitous use of .

I don't think Roops was suggesting he play in the centres...he was suggesting Uate is the classy player for our backline, didn't specify a position! I tend to agree with him but as is the case with the current team we have, who knows what will happen as the plot will have a few more twists and turns over the next 12 months!

Not all coaches in the competition have issues with defensive liabilities as much as Brian Smith has with his outside backs. Other NRL coaches would have had Uate playing way more first grade than Smith has so far.

The point being Brian Smith isn't going to stick a defensive liability like Uate in a key position like centre!
