You blokes are whining because you thought you'd poach a once in a generation halfback with the Panthers doing the majority of the work to make him 1st class standard, just before he hits his prime. Most of you were even bragging about it. Now that we turned the tables on you, you all bitch like a bully stole you favourite lolly pop. You even ended up with a quality coach in the exchange but still have to sulk and carry on. Toughen up you soft merkins. the victimhood mentality is for losers.

Nath seems like a good player, but "once in a generation?"

That's like labeling Jamie Soward the next Immortal.

This is almost correct.

Penrith are obliged to recompense any difference in two contracts. So if IC was being paid 700k and the reports Penrith have paid 400k then the Tigers are paying massive overs! Bennett is on $1m apparently. No way Madge is worth more than that imo.

Cleary was contracted for 2 more years wasn’t he? So maybe the $400k covers 2 years at $200k per year extra for Maguire.

People acting like if the panthers are or are not forking out money its coming in or out of their pocket. Why care for?

I don't think Panthers are obligated though as we were signing Ivan from 2021 and Tigers released him due to the obvious awkward situation it puts them in having a coach who's leaving in 2 years. Unless they specifically negotiated for Ivan early.

The real once in a generation player is Sione Katoa - how the f**k does he manage to play hooker for the Panthers, then turn up as an outside back for the Sharks - that's some special shit

Coaching your boy is nice in the under 12's... not convinced it's such a good idea in the NRL

Panthers knew exactly what they were doing when they signed Ivan to a future contract.

Clubs have been doing it with players for years now. Sign them early and then hope for an early release.

Panthers new it and the NRL in their infinite wisdom continue to allow it.

Feel for the Tigers, they did nothing wrong other than get exploited by a system the NRL refuse to fix.

Panthers didn't do anything wrong technically, but ethically I think we all knew when they signed Ivan he was going to be their coach in 2019.

They exploited the system. Not the first and won't be the last, but for now they're going to have to cop the brunt of some well earned jibes.

Best thing the Panthers can do is be successful, because if they crash it's going to get a whole lot worse.

Like OP said, Penrith didn't need him until the end of his contract so i doubt they would have paid him for two years. I find it difficult to believe that Penrith paid them anything TBH. WT played hard ball and Penrith backed away with plan B. They locked in Plan A a little later and for two years time.

IC saying it wasn't how he wanted it etc indicates to me he was honestly going to see out the remainder of his contract with them. WT cancelled that on him.

Lol poor old Ivan was hard done by by the Tigers then? C'mon Panthers fans, no need to keep up the charade. You got what you wanted, so good luck!

How dare the Tigers, are you kidding? Penrith created a situation where they knew the Tigers would be forced to release Cleary, not against the rules but unethical and a classless act.

Neither of these responses make sense for what was quoted.

Its worked before. Recent examples John & Martin Lang and Bennett & Darius.

Little different coaching your son who was a one trick pony, run hard and run straight, to coaching your son who has the keys to the team and massive expectations from people at the foot of the mountains.

Anyway I guess the toad Gus will be the real coach anyway

Bottom line with all this saga, in the final wash up The Tigers ended up with probably a superior coach. As for Cleary and Penrith it was a low act, but the NRL is full of low acts and good guys seldom win. It all gets down to doing what you think will give you the best chance of winning.

The only downside for the Tigers is, our new coach has Cleary’s roster to work with for 12 months and he made some brain dead signings.

Iam sure IC will keep a very low profile and let Gus the fatman have the spotlight till the season starts
