No. Your assertion that the Manly v Bears derby is hilarious as far as importance is concerned is your warped view/opinion. No fact in that! So I DISSAGREE. I believe that longtime rivalry is very important. We dissagree .
I find it bizarre that a teacher could spell disagree incorrectly twice in the same post, but the facts I presented were poor crowds in the final years of the derby, which are not up for dispute or disagreement.

Like any other sporting fixture, it requires both teams going well to generate interest, and when that interest isn't there, crowds fall.

I'm not at school but you need to be I suggest.I have disagreed with your facitious and ignorant regard for the value of the Norths v Manly derby. You seem to have joy in relaying that the later derbies didn't draw great crowds. Nevertheless the derbies have drawn large crowds which indicates a healthy interest. Perhaps bad weather may have impacted these later derby games? Or form? For you to dismiss the worth of a longstanding local derby is a bit rich and shows you are out of your depth in not favourably assessing such an important cultural and sporting relationship that has been enjoyed by plenty of people over plenty of years. Meanwhile rugby league declines in northern Sydney. whilst no derby continues. Go figure!? PS: I'm not having cheap shots at your vocation(mind you I shudder to think what it is!?) so I suggest you show some common decency. Then again that's asking a bit much given your track record!

The problem you have is you are trying to use the manly/warringah shute shield rivalry as evidence that the NRL is missing a trick by not having a manly/norths rivalry.

There are a few problems with that.

1. Warringah is north of manly, not south.
2. The NRL version of manly caters to warringah
3. Norths have a shute shield team and there is f**k all rivalry with manly.

You still haven't grasped the issue! It's the local derby that creates relevance. Manly Sea Eagles have no local derby. North Sydney provides the cultural relevance that enhanced local/cultural rivalry. It's the local relevance that has been lost. I assume this will.not get a like from Timmah as it makes sense!

I just told you that rivalry exists in union and it means nothing just like it would in the NRL

Would not give a crap about union champ. We are discussing the LOST (I repeat LOST) rivalry between the Bears and Manly Warringah. If you don't think that losing such a derby has reduced rugby league’s relevance in that region we will never agree. Simple as that!

You dodo. You were trying to elaborate on a union game which I couldn't give two hoots about. Spare me the elaboration. As the concern should be that a crap code like union is better placed(getting more local relevance) as a result of rugby league not having a genuine local derby in northern Sydney. Get that in your head dodo! The localism demands a rivalry and top flight rugby league(which is the only one that matters! ) is not providing it!

If you couldn’t give two hoots about Union why do you never stop talking about it? Also why did you chose to play it?

Back at yu! And you're the one in the wrong context! The loss of a longstanding local top flight rugby league rivalry is doing the code of rugby league not good on northern Sydney. Get that in your "enlightened head"! Until that's recognised and proactively addressed rugbyleague will be on a downward slide in this area.

I played it as an allround sportsman in my high school years. I was the school rugby league captain in year 12. I only found out about the dodgy efforts of union against rugby league from that year onwards. Having to sign a declaration that I played rugby league for money at that stage prior to playing a schoolboy union game prompted my suspicions of a strange stance against the rugby league code . Form this I have learnt more about this 'bigotry' and its very pervasive and repressive doings. Union sheepishly owns many examples of sly behind the scenes work for numerous decades purely aimed at constraining and limiting/stopping rugby league . In Australia and absolutely outside of Australia.Very unsportsmanlike conduct from a code that originally despised professionalism.

You said this 5 pages ago.

You then cited the manly/warringah union rivalry as proof there is an appetite for a norths/manly NRL rivalry. You even went as far to clain that rugby doesn't post crowds as a clandestine measure to hide its success from league officials.

You're delusions have been debunked many times in here yet you still go on with the same garbage.

No no no no! I have asserted that this rivalry in union would not have blossomed had top-flight rugby league enjoyed a local derby rivalry (Norths v Manly ) Without this the poorly catered for locals search for other outlets with a local union rivalry benefitting.
And their has been absolutely nothing that has debunked any of my observations. Sure I've seen tainted union loving deflection but nothing to negate such observations at all.

Because why wouldn’t the people of North Sydney want to watch a northern Sydney side (Manly) play against Sydney Roosters in a local derby when they could watch third tier union instead?

Tainted union deflection? You’re the one who signed a contract to play the game.
I never even watched a game until had left school (the World Cup final) I could probably count on my hands the number of games I’ve watched since then.

Are you seriously suggesting most North Sydney Bears fans would pay to go watch Manly play the Roosters! ? My word you have no idea. North Sydney v Roosters :Yes! The exiting of the North Sydney Bears from the top flight has and is doing alot of damage for the code of rugby league in northern Sydney. Some on this site can't see it that way. Plenty of others do.

I didn't sign a contract to play union. I had to sign a declaration stating that I was not seeking monetary gain to play this particular schoolboy union game. Having played all/most other sports in my final year, this was the only sport I had to sign such a declaration. The rest of the sports were turn up and play.

Lol . I played it just other codes. But must admit I didn't enjoy the lack of tackling and running with the ball that was par for the course playing this code. Rugby league and soccer were far more enjoyable.
