Refereeing The Magic Round sin bin directive

the crackdown started 2 rounds ago. Both round have been down.

they definitely go up and down depending on who is playing, so we’ll see if the trend continues over the next few weeks

It all started because of the dufus' on field and in the bunker who did nothing about the hit on Tedesco or the knees in the back on Drew Hutchinson in the Eels v Roosters match. Had some on field action been taken, it could be we would not now be seeing this applied so rigidly.

no one will attempt a big hit if it can lead to a send off this easily. Farewell hard hitters and big hits in RL. Not sure what future highlight reels will be about lol

How many big hits do we currently see ? Maybe 2 in an entire round ? This crack down isn't going to change that.

George Tuafua has put on some of the biggest hits in the games history and none of them were anywhere near the head. Victor Radley was unlucky his timing was out this weekend, he usually goes for the ribs.

Believe it or not ... the NFL, ESL and Rugby comps around the world still have massive hits...I'm sure the NRL will too.

I think we will see players staying down more or rubbing their head any time they get hit in the head. The bunker simply cannot review every single tackle on the fly, it's impossible. So they will be looking for those cues.

How long before there is a player milking it in every second set of six? Whenever there is more than two defenders in a tackle you can almost guarantee the head has been touched.

Or the shit Mitchell pulled. Or kafusi. Its only the fact that it was the roosters who were sooking that anything happened

There needs to be something which doesn't reward diving.

Maybe something like mandatory time off the field (10 min? or more) with free interchange if you are down on a reportable offence. This is to include sore necks.
It's very refreshing to see a fan of the team that includes Nathan Brown, looking to eradicate diving and neck rubbing.
Well in, Mr Spock !

I think we will see PARRAMATTA players staying down more or rubbing their PARRAMATTA head any time they get hit in the BLUE & GOLD head. The bunker simply cannot review every single tackle on BROWN the fly, it's impossible. So they will be looking for those cues.

How long before there is a PARRA player milking it in every second set of six? Whenever there is more than two defenders in a tackle you can almost guarantee the head has been touched.
. . . I fixed it for you gerg.

You can still put on a big hit without collecting someone's jaw. If you want to watch people get KO'd watch UFC.

That’s not it...

People don’t watch Rugby League to see knock outs.... and if they do they belong in an asylum..

People watch it for many other reasons than that.

But they are turning off with frustration, quality of games, blowouts, players missing... possibly many others..

Despite what Peter Vlandys suggests that “the game is the most exciting it’s ever been”.. the narrative everywhere else is completely different. The main thing people are talking about are these rule changes.... ratings aren’t great...

Add to that, the NRL made a song and dance about speeding up the game cos of too many instances of time wasting. Now we stop to review every time a players rubs his head, face or neck.

Good luck stopping a rampaging 110kg modern day player by sticking your head and shoulder down at his hip height! Not to mention the quick play of the ball he will get from it. Or the offload from not being wrapped up top. But yeh in theory telling them to tackle low sounds easy right?

Exactly - new rules are having the complete opposite effect

They are bringing back the big mobile players

Why do big hits need to be high contact?
Why cant a big hit be some dude just absolutely rattling some poor bastards rib cage and stopping him dead in his tracks?

Try going low on a big forward like Asofa-Solomona, if it isn't a hospital pass in front of their face and they have time they just offload it.

The reason players tackle up near the arms is to wrap the ball up. You're not going to coach a team to let the opposition get easy second phase play.

They were right on 100% Footy last night, you start going low on these big forwards.. most of them have an offload and a bit of footwork

They are either going to offload it or you are probably going to get knocked out

The Newcastle/Cowboys game was pretty much what we can expect if we continue to go down this path, neither team really committing in defense

It can be but as I said earlier it is the quickest way for a defender to get a concussion and a proper one unlike the rubbish ball carriers are going on about.

Ball runners can twist their hips, lower their elbows, turn their shoulders etc. on impact and it is all fair game.

Agreed.

I know the mention of Phil Gould in here makes many LU users roll their eyes. But he has said many, many a time in the past that Rule changes don't "fix" things, they just create a new set of issues...

He's right.
