The new rules. The new game. Has this actually created health risks?

Frenzy.

Things I'm noticing.

Quite a few HIAs have been from friendly fire. Head clashes in upright tackles. I'd love to know that stats they keep.

Canberra and Sharks players were left to fight on under extreme fatigue today. That increases the risk of injury as well IMO. It's much easier to make a technique error in defence especially when tired. Head in the wrong place. Stop bending and having head exposed to there heads etc

It will happen more.

This may well be a helluva ride watching this increased attrition

Whatever is going on they probably need to look at an 18th man in certain situations.

The fact teams cant even kick the ball out for a breather now is insane.

Uele on his missed tackle had just ducked his head exhausted, if the parra player had ran straight and not stepped it would have been nasty.

They finally make scrums useful by not letting teams break early and then make the game have less scrums?

The six again rule has been kinda farcical. Just random restarts sometimes it seems.

They bring in that proposed rule then it won't take long for the smart ones to start rorting it.

The games fharhked now.

It has overdosed on rule changes.

Someone needs to pull the plug
Of course. Maybe HIA only and independent doctors decision. And I’d probably only allow it with two or more hia’s.

Yeah Frenz,I agree with this. The game is too fast and too open. It must be murder to play at NRL level now. The emphasis fatigue has dialled it up too much.
Even last nights game whilst good to watch for the first twenty where there was no drop ball or stoppages just seemed weird. Back to back end to end raids. The the HIA incidences ruined the game for one team . Three out was critical . No matter how fit the rest are. Some form of wind back will probably come into play, and rightfully so. Let’s see what agapanthus has to say about it.

f**k, playing 40 minutes with 13 at that speed is deadly.

Overall the team did real well last night. A long way ahead of the team of last year.
I like Bomber as a coach and would like to give him a crack for more years, but these setbacks won’t help when the regular hounds start howling.

Something needs to be done that is for sure. Forcing players to stay on the field and power through injuries and fatigue due to an empty bench has to lead to more substantial, long term injuries.

I can see the teams that start the season being very different from the team that ends it due to forced roster changes.

Can they force head gear on to players with 50/50 calls on the HIA in order for them to return or would the head gear make no difference?

NRL are in a pickle.
The weekend games have been a blood bath and sharks parra game is perfect example that it ain’t working.
How some players get hooked HIA but others don’t?
Each clubs top 30 roster number get increased to cover for the possible damage to players?
Possible end result....Rooster complain to NRL that they have been disadvantaged, NRL change rules.

They did 2 things.
2 contradicting things.
In the toughest contact sport in the world they tightened up the head knock rule to protect guys who were getting hit in the head
Secondly, they made the game faster so more guys are getting hit in the head.

Obviously Houston we have a problem.

How many of the recent mob of young Big Boppers coming through, are going to have a long career playing the NRL at this speed with this rules. (the big blokes I am talking about)

There will not be many getting past 6 or 7 seasons before they suffer physical and mental burn out.

Maybe the squads are just filled with the wrong type of athlete?

Might take some time for the Darwinism to come through the lower grades with faster, fitter, more agile blokes.

Maybe we have a bunch of power athletes trying to play fast. We need fast players playing fast.

Once they have an 18th man it will be rorted. It would be good to have a gentleman’s agreement for the good of all- but people are selfish.

Yeah I don’t know. Maybe just make some subs stay off once they’re off or something. Soccer style.

ok I’ve thought about this for three seconds. Have two or three spots that can interchange multiple times (2 is my choice). Then the rest must stay off.

That’s kind of what I was thinking, two to do that and 4 that can be subbed on and off
now I’m making it as complicated as an NRL rule, so it might just pass!
