The Official Finals Crowd Thread

I'd love more than anything else to be at the Storm's 2nd home final, but no way in hell I would choose it over a Geelong v Collingwood prelim, and 99% of Victorians would feel the same. NRL should do the right thing and switch the Storm game to Friday, or else play it at 4pm.

Channel 9 would possibly not want it played at 4pm but this would seem by far the most sensible solution.

OK, WARNING!! I'm a Victorian! It is pretty stupid that you somehow brand us all, when you are trying to win us all over. I'm an AFL, NBL and NRL fan. Firstly, dont understand why this Rugby League forum, is stuffed with all these, AFL is trying to kill us threads, or posts in the threads. The AFL, never said it when the NRL came to Melbourne and you should not be threatened, the AFL, will never take over Western Sydney or any part of Sydney no matter how inept the NRL management is.

Welcome. Good to see a few Victorians on the forum :)

The AFL paranoia on here mostly arises from:

(a) AFL HQ's arrogance
(b) AFL's cunning PR machine
(c) media beatups over very little

QFT!! The Flogball is meant to be the number 1 sport in the country, only a half full stadium for a semi final in Flogball heartland. And he blames the cold but he lives in Victoriania lol

Eddie is a Cronulla supporter and probably a closet afl fan.
Probably now got a conviction after being escorted by a divvy van from olympic park a couple of years ago;-)

Secondly, as a storm supporter, I was very dissapointed with the crowd. They were expecting a huge turnout, and unlike what you guys are saying, Which most of you would have no idea, as you are not even in the state, the game got enormous press coverage. In fact the Melbourne Storm always gets a page and a half coverage in the paper, and on Friday made joint front page with the AFL. Not bad at all.

Anyway, both games are world class games, alot of you haters should grow up. Both sports can survive together, and Melbourne newspapers do give the Storm a GREAT run! Probably more than we desrerve, not that i will complain.:D

well said mate.

Although I agree with you in the most part, why did the AFL sign Karmichael Hunt?

I disagree with you about the turnout....which I thought was good.
Storm were hoping for about 25,000+ so it wasn't far off the mark.

As for the publicity you mentioned....what are you on about?
It wasn't till friday that we got a decent run in the Herald Sun a page and half. Though they did have a photo of both Cam Smith and a Western Bulldogs player on the front page....as far as the Storm write up in the Herald Sun you had to go about 12 pages in from the back page to read any news on Storm's final.

At least with 59,000 empty seats at ANZ Timmah would have had plenty of spare seats to sit his big fat arse.

And how many did the Swans get to the last finals game in Sydney? Oh that's right, about 19,000....

The only thing I resent is the massive amount of support AFL gets from government, the media (ABC) and even the Corporate sector. The ACT government alone is prepared to offer millions of taxpayers money for the western Sydney AFL team.

and an NRL final against 2 NSW sides is rugby league heartland got 21k so what's your point? Instead of obsessing about another codes crowds we should be concentrating on our own. It was a very poor one last night and that's what we should be addressing, not an irrellevant AFL crowd that wasn't even this year.

No, about 95,000 plus about another 900,000 watching on TV.

My point is the NRL should avoid a clash at all costs if they want to maximise the crowd for this game. A different timeslot could be the difference between a 15k crowd and a 30k crowd.

Ok, the Storm publically came out and said that they wanted 30,000- so I know that they will be dissapointed, but what must be remembered is that they are getting crowds better or equal to sydney or Brisbane teams, which is fantastic.

The publicity was actually very good, regularly in the Heraldsun and The Age newspaper, and talked alot on sen and other radio stations. There was two ads in the newspaper, and the news featured a few stories. As also a basketball supporter, I know that Rugby League gets a very good run publically in Melbourne. There isnt a day where there is not a NRL story, and now, we are starting to get other league news not related to the Storm.

And to the person who asked about Karmichael Hunt, of course they did this as a PR move, but is that really going to Kill the NRL, and there really is no hate hating the AFL and it's PR, etc. IT is clearly better than the NRL, and that is something that the NRL needs to sort out desperately.

But look, good on the storm, the GOVERNMENT! has built us a new stadium so hey, we really are making an impact, and our crowds will grow when we are on this new stadium, for sure.

Storm v Broncos/Dragons - their two biggest rivals so you would imagine a huge crowd in Melbourne as well.
