I miss that too. The innocence of the 70's/80's was beautiful as a kid and then teenager.
But the world has changed. If we don't change with it, we will be left behind.
I for one, am changing with it, making my own judgements and being as accepting of change as I can be at my age. I may not like a lot of what is happening, but I cannot change it.
I've chosen not to lose sleep over these changes. My now late teenage aged kids have phones and will find whatever they want to find on a small device they can hold in their hand. Like any kids, they are also subject to peer pressure from both friends and enemies.
I trust the fact that both myself and the ex have instilled in them the highest levels of tolerance and acceptance of all races, religious creeds and those of differing sexual or even political preferences.
I've seen nothing from either of them that suggests that they will go down any other path.

Me and my mates had a good little side buisness in the 90s. We all saved up our Money and ordered pornos from the back of a People magazine. Used our bus passes to identify and collect.
Firstly we made our Iraq friend collect them. Till he told his mother and she said it was against their religion so I did the dirty work.

Then we made copies and would sell or hire them. They would sell like hotcakes in high school.

Those where great days suitman. Nowdays porn is taken for granted.

This Pride thread has been dormant since the Manly dramas and now it's trending because the intolerant have decided to use 2023 WorldPride to share their antiquated and often bigoted opinions.

This week is the 45th anniversary of when the Sydney 78's rose against the haters to protest against the discrimination that they, undeservedly, were forced to deal with by their community and even at law.

The haters are less in number these days (refer SSM non binding just pretending that we mean well vote that was designed to fail but didn't) however it's pretty clear that there remains a small percentage who feel the need to sledge people who are different to them, whilst bravely hiding behind social media anonymity.

Like the mental health thread, I thought the Pride thread would be a place where sensitive discussion could take place. An acknowledgement that LGBTQI+ peeps probably exist as members on this site, most definitely are love ones of members on this site and without a doubt are members of the NRL community as players, staff etc.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and their free speech. It's a shame however that people are not careful as to where they express their free speech, when they know it may very well insult or vilify.

And here we have the White Knight in his natural habitat, you love free speech as long as it agrees with you. Otherwise it's just hate speech from a bunch of homophobes and Terfs. Gronk getting offended on behalf of everyone classic 2023 oppression olympics.

Exactly. Do you feel 'PROUD' about your sexuality or beliefs? Of course not. Why would you be? You'd be a f**kwit to be proud of heterosexuality, and in 2023 you'd be just as much of a f**kwit to be proud of the alternatives. Why be proud of something that you're born with? It's hardly an achievement.

It has been the case that being homosexual was something to be ashamed of for centuries, including being illegal at times in some places.

We have reached a stage when they can finally come out and be proud of who they are (in some places). I see nothing wrong with celebrating that.

It certainly is an achievement, not a personal one but one as a society. I’m sure there will come a time when it will be so normal that it won’t need to be celebrated and just part of everyday life. We haven't reached that point yet.

I'm not trying to twist your words. You are achieving that all on your own. That's the 2nd time you've claimed that and I'm doing nothing of the sort. Yet twice you have refused to answer my question as to what you consider is normal.
So your brother did it tough eh? I have absolutely no doubt he did and I feel sorry for him that during this difficult time so long ago, it was not considered acceptable to be who he was and be proud of it. It was a terrible time back then to come out as being gay, let alone trans. Just ask someone as brave as Ian Roberts was.
Thankfully, times are changing and now this community finally have a voice which is less likely to be vilified.
For your brother's sake, who I see as a somewhat hero and brave, this is something to celebrate.

It's not just the parade I am referring to. It is the fact we've allowed American garbage to influence our country far to much. They are off their heads and out of control.

In the 90s I could feel a real European influence and it was much more family and friends orientated. We had a choice to go that way or follow USA. We went the wrong way and now we are copying their mess.

Kids are watching pornos on their phones at a young age. I had a mate who was raped growing up by a 9 and 10yr old. They had found some of their dads videos and watched them then decided to try what they saw on him.

The shit that comes out of that country and we lap it up.
