Did you not have history teachers at school? There’s literally no difference.I'm not sure I trust anyone who studies the Bible 'for a living'. How do they make a living out of it? Who pays them, and why?

Teachers don't study for a living. They teach.Did you not have history teachers at school? There’s literally no difference.
Do you think University professors who study this material don’t teach classes on it?Teachers don't study for a living. They teach.
You said it yourself, any given eyewitnesses was probably illiterate. But if you were going to go to the effort of recording an account of events why wouldn't you write in the language that would reach the most readers? If Jesus was dead they weren't writing it to him. It’s funny that Jesus spoke Aramaic yet the stories about him were written by anonymous Greek speakers rather than eyewitnesses who knew him.
Which was everybody who could read at the time, in that part of the world. We shouldn’t conflate each of the gospels into one text either. They all have their own voices. I don’t think any of them were necessarily written to reach the largest possible audience. They were written for that particular audience (which happened to speak Greek).
Anti-Semitism you reckon? It’s pretty clear some of the gospels go out of their way to minimise the responsibility of the Romans and place the blame at the hands of the Jews.
Well what is there to keep studying? Some new evidence has come in hot off the press? How long does it take to read an English/Spanish/etc translation of the relevant documents plus the accepted academic consensus on it all? I doubt it would be an ongoing process after you've learnt all the correct facts and opinions. Any new insight would be divinely inspired rather than coming from previously untouched musty tomes.Do you think University professors who study this material don’t teach classes on it?
I don’t think they deliberately chose to write the stories in Greek because they wanted to reach the widest audience. They were Christians who wanted to write a story and happened to be Greek speaking. You said it yourself, any given eyewitnesses was probably illiterate. He probably saw himself as the King of God’s coming Kingdom (which was going to be here on earth not just in a spiritual sense) after judgment day. There’s a line in the gospels where he tells the disciples that those twelve would rule under him. One of those twelve is Judas. It’s highly unlikely a Christian would have made up a line where Jesus incorrectly predicts Judas would be one of the Kings ruling under him so it’s likely it came from his own lips.
I think that is what most people are missing - they are being asked to celebrate something they don't believe in and support. There are lots of things I will happily tolerate, but not wear a t-shirt in public endorsing - am I therefore a bigot?
But I went to their anniversary dinner and helped them celebrate 25 years of happy marriage and bought them a present and congratulated them... so I guess I am really a hypocrite and a bigot.
Yeah true, its not jesus, its the dudes who wrote the propaganda book
But what about unity and tolerance for the players beliefs??? Or don’t their beliefs count???They’re not openly discriminating. But what is certain is that they’ve been asked to show unity and tolerance for others and acceptance for others to live as they wish… and they’ve chosen not to.
Full credit to Manly’s board and good to see they’ve committed to doing it next season.
So they aren’t free to their religious beliefs??? Isn’t that the definition of bigotry???Well I guess if they don’t believe in a society that is tolerant where people are free to live and not be judged for their race, colour creed or sexual orientation, it makes them bigots by definition.
I really think we need a f**k Storm, Manly, Roosters and Dogs round next year.I can’t wait for next season.
I want the nrl to have a pride round.
I want the nrl to also have catholic round. Easter weekend all jerseys have crosses.
while we’re at it we should have an Islamic round. When it’s there Eid at end of Ramadan, all jerseys to have a sword or a moon.
They should also look into Buddhist, Hindu and Jewish rounds as well.
all players are to participate and if not blast from a cannon into the sun.
Love is love who are you to judge
Not sure that’s the correct take TBH. Jersey was instigated by the Penn family. The NRL jersey design approval process has a long lead in period. The Everyone In League theme, led by Gus Worlens, was hijacked when Manly's jersey designer decided to add the rainbow colours. Roosters jersey had the Everyone In League logo on it.
Well Nero wasn't too fond of the early Christians having their own king so decided to use them as human torches to light his gardens and put them on display for lion feeding time. The Romans didn’t care what religion you preached as long as you paid your taxes and recognised them as the rulers. I would say Jesus was telling people he was the King of the Jews which the Romans didn’t take kindly to as they saw themselves as the rulers of the state so they crucified him for political insurrection.
He seems nice.Well Nero wasn't too fond of the early Christians having their own king so decided to use them as human torches to light his gardens and put them on display for lion feeding time.
