If the Bulldogs had already done their investigation and it was complete before the integrity unit was in place why would they refer it?

Unit announced to be set up Feb 7 after "darkest day in sports " press conference.

Yeah it was announced then but the head of it wasn't appointed until May. Could have started anywhere in between

Yeah, there wasn't much negative media around at the time, and Im sure the NRL had other important things to worry about like the new marketing campaign.

So....have the Dogs now changed their tune on what went on behind the scenes with all the innuendo?
Why is it suddenly appropriate the Bulldogs feel it is necessary to refer this matter to the big, bad ass Integrity Unit?
Are we to expect more of this behaviour from Golden Boy Greenburg in his noble cause to sweep everything under the carpet?
And he is now a decision maker.....pfft :sarcasm:

so Webster on the footy show seemed to be implying this was about the incident http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/barbas-partner-denies-innuendo-20130831-2sxfj.html

Barba's partner denies innuendo

Date
September 1, 2013

Adrian Proszenko, Andrew Webster

The partner of Canterbury superstar Ben Barba has denied being the victim of domestic violence during their relationship in a statement issued by her lawyer on Saturday.

The Bulldogs issued Barba a compassionate release from the final two years of his NRL contract in order to reconcile with partner Ainslie Currie, the mother of their two children. Currie is relocating to Queensland to be closer to her family and Barba has signed with Brisbane.

Barba and Currie separated while the Dally M medallist went into rehabilitation to deal with personal problems, including gambling and alcohol-related issues. All parties vehemently denied the split was due to domestic violence at the time. However, Currie's lawyer, Campbell MacCallum, took the unprecedented step of issuing a statement following speculation a photo of Currie was going to be published on Sunday.

''I understand that it is the intention to have the issue of domestic violence within their relationship brought once again to the surface,'' MacCallum said.

''This issue has previously been reported and rumoured throughout media outlets approximately 4-5 months ago.

''At that time Ms Currie advised that she became aware of the 'rumours and accusations about herself and Ben'. She had stated at that time when contacted that there was no violence within the relationship. It has now come to her attention once again that such rumours are circulating again due to new information which is alleged to implicate Mr Barba. Ms Currie now wishes to place on record for the final time, through myself as her legal representative, that there has never been physical violence in the relationship and that the allegations that have been put to her by various media commentators are in fact incorrect.

''Ms Currie and Ben Barba are dealing with their personal relationship and are focused on developing a close and stable relationship for themselves and their two young children.'' Canterbury chief executive Raelene Castle said the ''Family Club'' had done everything possible to support Barba during a difficult period. ''The Bulldogs are completely comfortable that we did everything we possibly could for Ben, in his support,'' Castle said.

Asked if the issue of the Currie photo had been passed on to the NRL's integrity unit, Castle said: ''There hasn't been a need to.''

When asked "Will he be able to play football again" the Dogs shouldn't have lied and said "No"

They should have stated, "Of course, he is star clubs will be falling over themselves to sign him"

Yes and he was howled down on here.

The fact that no defamation proceedings went forward is interesting.

OK fine. It doesn't mean that there wasn't a lynch mob saying he was wrong and should be sued.

why wouldn't people say that seeing what he claimed was never mentioned in the presser?

why did he never ever mention it again until today on The Roast?

the worst thing about this is that the DT chose Fathers Day to do their story

Barba has kids and even the DT made it clear in their article that they weren't alleging the punch did occur

Ha, you've certainly flown off the handle at an innocuous comment there mate.

Lets hope going forward we don't all just trust what a footy club's PR department state in a press release and in the same breath what is written in the media without some critical analysis.

How disgraceful are the Dogs.

I've enjoyed watching them paint themselves into a corner since they presented Barba as a victim - but to turn around and leak this now and pass it to the integrity commission after they lost him shows they have no integrity whatsoever.

Never agreed with how Greenberg manipulated public opinion on this one and hope he gets his comeuppance. Dave Smith will be wondering if he made the right choice now.
