Strong point about the Jobs for the Boys approach, Freddie and Joey giggling like schoolgirls at lowbrow "humour" was born old and quicly got older. The weakness in that argument seems to be that, from the very little that I watch of AFL, it seems to be fairly prevalent there as well.

It doesn't really matter if it's happening in the AFL. If it's happening there it's an issue for them. What should concern us is if it's happening in our game.

I think footy and cricket coverage will always have a "job for the boys" recruitment policy, but its just a matter of picking the best "boys" for the jobs, as opposed to the most popular/highest profile. Since we love to compare the NRL to the AFL, recently 7 have added Richo & Cameron Ling to their commentary team and both can more than hold their own in front of a mic. Freddie and Joey on the other hand ............

Probably means nothing, but I just saw an ad on 7 pushing League. It was them saying that they would have Hindmarsh in talking about how the Eels plan on turning the season around on the news tomorrow.

Now, I'm no industry expert, but why would a channel promote a sport that's on another channel?

Could it be because Chris Bath is a westie and mad Eels fan?

Um no thanks. The paint is drying quite nicely.

In terms of potential F2A NRL game coverage quality: 10 > 7 > 9 in my opinion.

You know what Channel 9 does for the NRL, they've been doing it for sometime. What rabbit do people think they're suddenly going to pull out of their hat?

Channel 7 - the NRL will be on an equal footing with the AFL - in theory. However that means the spotlight will be split.

Channel 10 has a plan to make themselves the NRL network.
Whereas both 9 & 10 desperately need the game, Channel 10 are approaching it from a far less arrogant perspective.

Wouldn't that be great.

If 9 lose the NRL to 10, does that mean 9 will need to push the Rugby Union harder?

LOL.

And before the usual suspects start hacking at me for being a scummy Pimms drinking golden dunny Union Troll, and while I think that such a scenario could be a fantastic outcome for Union, I really think 9 would rather go down swinging in a sea of red ink than suffocate slowly on the ratings that prime time Super Rugby would deliver if put up against Rugby League. They would be better off with re-runs of Top Gear. They'd probably be better off with re-runs of I love Lucy.

In any case, I just can't see a business case where 9 let 10 outbid them, or where 10 are seriously going to pay what 9 must to retain it.

That won't stop 10 beating the pans, shaking their spears and looking hungrily at the NRL to make sure 9 over-pays through the nose for it of course and places further stress on their budgets so maybe 10 picks up other opportunities that 9 are now too poor to compete for. Its a corporate jungle out there. If you can't kill the wildebeast before the other tribe does at least make sure they're too exhausted to carry it back to their village so you can snipe at them and wear them down for the next clash.

They're both in the same boat.

Whichever network (out of 9 & 10) fails to get the NRL rights will be relegated to third place.

If people don't believe that's possible, you only need to go back to 2004 to see how close 10 came.

You said it champ.

If 9 lose the rugby league, they won't even contemplate putting that Super 15 rubbish on.

The only union you will see in prime time is Wallaby internationals against the top nations. The rest is test pattern stuff.
