Regardless of who wins the rights. there should be a clause in the next TV rights agreement to NOT promote Rugby League's rival codes (i.e Rugby Union).

Did anyone watch the Aus vs Italy union game yesterday? Did they mention during coverage of the Storm vs Knights game to follow?

Rabs and Gus were disgusting for the whole of this game today. Talk about amateur hour. 5 minutes raving about the seagulls, negativity and questioning the posted crowd figure and last nights as well. Seriously the NRL need to talk to this mob and tell them first to wise up and 2nd f**k off after their contract is up.

If Rabbs is suspicious about the crowd numbers does he have to say it on live national TV? That's an argument for another time surely.
It's time for a younger commentary team. Vossy would be a good start.

Not sure if this has been mentioned at all, but I feel it is somewhat relevant.

Channel 9 is totally dicking everyone with the Union WC as well.

While I can see people on here not giving a shit because it's union, it just goes to show how out of touch Channel 9 is, and how little faith they have in either rugby code in any of the non heartland states.

They just don't know how to use sport in general. They barely get a pass mark in cricket, and they fail miserably at everything else. Get them the hell away from our game.

That Tim Dick is pretty much a dick. The SMH have been littering their TV magazine with pumping up the Union Work Cup. They even had write up over the Tigers V Dragons match. Union fans are pretty well looked after with “Live” coverage on Foxsports. Non heartland Union fans are better looked after on Foxsports. The Union coverage on Channel 9 is only to satisfy their obligations on FTA TV. Squeezing in the odd Wallaby match between an NRL finals match on Channel 9. Those games outside the Wallabies would rate less that repeats of I Dream of Jeannie. I have a laugh yesterday, with Channel 9 flogging Union packages during the Storm V Knights game at a reduced price, with Union’s version of Ita Buttrose as the host.

That was big of them. You would think that Channel 9 could have organised for a call team to be sent to NZ for the Wallaby games,

The Nine Rugby Team did say that the Storm V Knights was coming up at the end of the telecast.

Looks like the AFL beat us in the ratings for every one of the four finals matches over the weekend (at least in the five capitals count). Interesting after we've been doing so well over the course of the regular season.

Reason? Fixed schedule for AFL regular season restricting their ability to maxmise ratings until the finals? Lack of NRL coverage of finals in the minor states?

What time was the Sunday match shown in Adelaide and Perth? We drew 5,000 and 6,000 in Adelaide and Perth compared to 43,000 and 63,000 in Sydney and Brisbane for the Sunday AFL.

When the regionals hit, that won't be the case.

As per usual.

Leigh.

We still had the highest rating 5 metro city game though (tigers v dragons).

And when regionals are added...

That game is up almost 150,000 on last year Q4.

That puts week one up by almost 650,000 metro viewers compared to last year.

I think the Melbourne culture is that if you don't watch the finals then you'll be a pariah on Monday morning.

Not if I'm reading this right...

2 Seven’s : Qualifying Final 2: Geelong Vs Hawthorn Seven 1,094,000 18,000 689,000 13,000 178,000 197,000
3 Rugby League Final Series QF1 Nine 977,000 643,000 29,000 289,000 13,000 4,000

You're right of course about adding the regions. It just lept out at me that we hadn't won the metros for any of the four games even though we'd been beating the AFL pretty regularly during the season.

Guys

Here's a copy of my post on a TFC Thread:

Just did a quick search of the Think TV 's Top 40 Australia-wide (consolidated) programs for the last 10 weeks or so:
http://www.thinktv.com.au/content_co...gs-reports.seo

Here they are:

There's a slight adjustment to the 5 September 2011 figures. The consolidated ratings for FNF RL should now be 1.146M down 4K from the preliminary overnight figure of 1.150M.

Unfortunately for the AFL there was a larger than 6K negative adjustment for their game & they have dropped off the Top 40 List for the week.

The second updated list is:

16 July FNF NRL 1.161 M (no AFL)
25 July FNF NRL 1.327 M ( '' )
30 July FNF NRL 1.182 M ('' )

Agree, Sterlo is the only one with any class and professionalism on the current team and i would hope he would be involved in commentating regardless of who gets the rights. Gus hopefully will stick to his day job at penrith.

Rabs is an enigma. If Gus wasn't in the box i think he would be more focused on the game he is calling and more professional as a result.

Compared to the ch7 and ch10 productions for the AFL, 9 reeks of amateurism and imaturity.

Problem is 9 will fight tooth and nail for the rights as if they lose them they will be meaningless in sydney and brisbane

Forgot about Joey, his insight is excellent and the matty too

Completely agree that Sterlo is the only one worth poaching. He is the only one at 9 who can both analyze a game or play, and then articulate what he wants to say, succinctly, clearly, and without blabbering on.

But seriously, Rabs an enigma? Are you sure you didn't mean ENEMA? He's about as informative, and just about as painful! Not to mention that dribble you have to put up with...!

In Perth no NRL finals game was on before midnight. The Sunday game was on at 12.25am Monday. I'm surprised 6,000 insomniacs watched it!
