There's something rotten in the camp somewhere

The most intelligent post in this thread so far.....

To suggest tanking is ridiculous!
Just sack Hunt??....he would need to be paid out...its a good chuck of our cap for the next 5 years. And replace with who?
Dufty became an arrogant little prick just weeks after becoming a regular first grader....he needs to improve a lot in a number of facets of his game.
Not sure I agree with Dufty.
He's just not being used, the "coach" should be pointing at him at every training run and saying to every player "put this guy into space and we score".
Sure his defence is poor, but if we actually used his attacking abilities it would more than make up for it, but we don't, they are not trained to.

With Hunt I don't think we have to sack him and pay him out, I believe if Mary stays he asks to go.

Craig Bellamy was very clever months ago when we beat them. Came out and labelled us as “the benchmark”. He never actually meant that statement but he knew our players were dumb enough to start believing their own hype. Then comes Origin and most of our forward pack gets picked and that hype continues to go to their heads. May, June, July premiers. Since Origin, we are easily the worst team in the comp, literal wooden spoon material.

Yep nailed it.

It’s up to the coach and the leaders to keep everyone’s mind on the job when you’re declared the benchmark and half the side gets rep honours. Seems a few have checked out mid year when they were all getting pats on the back.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen no evidence of the team knuckling down for a semi final push. Mary and Graham told the media they weren’t worried, Widdop turns up to training looking ridiculous, JDB laughing and carrying on after getting pumped by 40 against Parra. There were even reports on JA that Vaughan was chugging a beer after he came off injured (not sure if this was ever confirmed??)

Seriously, does this sound like a team that’s serious about winning a comp?

It's boring repetitive one out forward plays.
There's no off loads because there's no one to offload too, as has been pointed out for weeks, the players are already setting up the next play instead of worrying about the play that's currently unfolding.
The next play is inevitably a one out forward hit up.

Dufty is not a bad player. His defensive deficiencies are far out weighed by his attacking abilities, but the team are not coached to take advantage of them, they are not trained to try to put him into gaps, he's not trained to follow the ball carrier.

McGregors game plan is always mistake free football first, he's told us this with his famous 16 points in defence game plans.
If you are just trying to restrict you opponents to 16 you do not expect to score more than 18.

Aitken, Nene, Lafai, Peierra are not bad players, just badly coached, never given the opportunity to run or ball play because the game plans are always "mistake free" first.

JDB, Sims, Ah Mau, Tyson have all gone off because they don't believe in the game plan they are forced to play under.
100% This.
Even Stevie Wonder can see it.
Poor Hunt goes from being coached by Bennett,Meninga & Walters to this clown.Any wonder he's lost his confidence.

Before the Dogs game I thought to myself do the Dragons really need to win another game now that they are assured of the finals. To me the Dragons finishing in the top 4 guarantees a loss in week 1 for sure as they will not beat Souths,Storm or Chooks. They probably fancy themselves to beat any team in the bottom 4 especially if Cronulla come 4th. The went in to play the Dogs and Knights to "Not get injured" so they can play the finals injury free and win every game. I wonder if the players are thinking that. I personally think the coach is.

If so that is so dumb and extremely arrogant if they are playing with this crap attitude to not get injured as that is what it looked like against the Dogs. Funny thing is Nighty got injured by his own player. They just looked as if they were in a training run yesterday and playing through the motions.

For 1 they are not as good as they think and 2 they are not guaranteed of beating the bottom 8 sides. Warriors beat Saints twice, Panthers absolutely smashed the Dragons and Bronco's on their day can beat anyone. If Saints think they can just take it easy and not get any injuries then that is so dumb it ain't funny. If they are worried about injuries then rest the players FFS and let Field and Mann play a full game in the halves. Put Herbert at FB as he is killing it in the lower grades. Put Lomax at centre for Lafai or Aitken. They should have done this against the Dogs.

What I see with Dufty is arrogance creeping in. He let the Dogs guy run thinking he will do another one of those tackles to bring him down and stop a try only to get shrugged off easily and look like a goose. He needs a game in Reserves. With Hunt the players look like they have no trust in him. They were tackled with the ball on the last tackle a few times without even looking like going to Hunt as an option.

I also think Mary must certainly have in his contract if he makes the 8 he is guaranteed 2019 because he could not get the smile off his face last week when they beat the Tigers and he was assured. He met his target, move on to 2019 in his books. The finals is just a bonus game for him.

Nothing rotten in this club just arrogance I feel. They honestly must think once Finals kicks in they can flick a switch and win every game because as we have now heard a few times "they were in the top 4 most of the season" so they must be good........Yeah right.

Dufty is a big concern. His confidence looks shot.
He only played 60 minutes yesterday and was a revolving door in defence and very predictable in attack.
SDB and Graham are the ones that need a spell.
Pick the team that can do a job against Newcastle.
Play payers in their specialist positions.
Herbert
Lomax
McDonald
Mann
Pereira
Field
Hunt (c)
Friz
McInnes
LAM
Sims
Leilua

Latimore
Lawrie
Robson

A comment from Duffy regarding making the finals pretty much sums up the poor attitude.
we fans are thinking, so what if we made the finals, we all expected that, now go on and keep winning rather than just be satisfied making the finals.

That advice appears to have been well founded, given the reaction to post-match comments from fullback Matt Dufty, which were posted on Twitter by Big League editor David Piepers.

"Without being rude, they need to wake up to themselves," Dufty said. "We've made the finals. Instead of throwing criticism they could show us some support. We try not to focus on external noise but it's hard not to when it's your own fans."

"Oust Doust", "Down with Brown", "Sack Farrar", The Price Is Not Right".

It's hard to recall a season when Dragons fans have ever really been satisfied but the ugly scenes at Jubilee Oval after Sunday's 38-0 loss to Canterbury as so-called supporters gathered around the tunnel to target players was one of the all-time lows at a venue that's had more than its share of drama over the years.

The abuse, which was so venomous police felt the need to intervene, took place in the same spot as the infamous "bucket of spit" incident of which referee Steve Clark was a victim after the Dragons lost the 1998 semi-final to the Bulldogs.

Canberra players once ran straight from their team bus on to the playing field at Kogarah because their safety could not be guaranteed at the height of Super League war, while officials needed security at home games after being subjected to death threats over a proposed merger with Sydney Roosters in 1995.

Neo-Nazi Ross "The Skull" May was banned from attending matches so he used to watch from the trees outside the ground, while the Save Our Saints group turned games at Kogarah into protest rallies against CEO Geoff Carr and the board.

Since the joint venture with Illawarra in 1999, chief executive Peter Doust and coaches Andrew Farrar, Nathan Brown and Steve Price have all had to endure fans on the hill with banners demanding their heads.

What those responsible for the vitriol may not have realised is that some of the players' families, including children, were waiting inside the tunnel for them to come from the field after presentations to Jason Nightingale and the daughter of Lance Thompson, who sadly passed away last week.

Members of St George Illawarra's Holden NRL Women's Premiership team were also in the tunnel after having been introduced to the crowd before the game and some players were in shock at the treatment dished out to their male counterparts.

"I wonder if they will react like this if we play badly," one player said. Another replied: "I didn't expect this from Dragons fans, maybe some other clubs".

And that's what is so shocking about the hostile reaction to a loss made worse by a mounting injury toll, which included a dislocated elbow likely to have ended Nightingale's career and a hamstring tear which forced centre Euan Aitken from the field after just 18-minutes.

Parramatta and North Queensland were widely tipped as premiership contenders before the start of the season but their fans haven't reacted the same way towards players who were effectively involved in a wooden spoon battle last Friday night.

The Bulldogs are another club with a passionate supporter base who have high expectations for their team every season but even when they were trailing 22-0 in the first half of the round 15 match at Belmore Oval against Gold Coast their supporters didn't boo the players.

In contrast, many of the fans who turned on the Dragons players were writing off the team's chances at the start of the season but after riding the wave of success they now feel let down.

History would suggest they are the game's biggest "crisis merchants".

I am gobsmacked at this continual spin doctored drivel from sections of the media.
The few idiots that created the scene at the entrance of the tunnel are not representative of the Dragon Army.
There seems to be a massive disconnect between the fans and the management of the club.
They are not listening to the fans. They obviously don't care what the fans think because if they did, they would not dare support such ridiculous journalism.
Dufty's comment defies belief from a young guy that was schooled yesterday and exposed as nothing more than a speed squib.
Of all the players to make a comment, he should be the last to do so.
His credentials as a FG fullback are in tatters right now and a little humility would not go astray.
I thought that the supporters were subdued when we got flogged by Parra but when you add Sunday's debacle in a local derby, emotions spilled over.
Bottom line is the standard set by the joint venture has been "making the finals is a good result"
All this shows me is it's time for a broom through the place.
Somehow attacking the fans and deflecting responsibility and accountability in this way is just down right cowardly and devoid of any integrity or shame.
Still staggered by this article...

I have no issue with players being booed etc. however nothing should ever be personal. Doesn’t matter how much they get paid you don’t make personal or derogatory marks at individuals.

In England, the new manager at Leeds United (soccer club) found out how much tickets cost for a game, got information on how much the average person has to work to earn that money (answer roughly 3 hours) and made the players pick up rubbish for 3 hours to show them the value of the tickets. - that’s what our players need.

It’s frustrating from a fan perspective, are we better of booing and showing them exactly how we feel (in the game) but then supporting them out of the rough patch.. or just abusing them, which risks those players becoming discontent even further and potentially makes the problem worse
