No... I don't believe you do agree with kier... not my place to go any further on that.
Steve, you sound like those nutcases that I tell to piss off on Sunday mornings. No matter how hard I try to say that we are trying to sleep in, they still manage to twists and distort everything. You're one of the creepy people.

I say that 'Man created god, God didn't create Man.'... and you say, 'But the Bible says...etc'

I say, 'Leave me to my own point of view' ... and you say, 'Oh no... can't have that, the bible etc...'

The most telling part of your argument came with this:

Willow: There is no greaterrelease than accepting that death brings freedom. The mind goes dead... the body decays and is returned to the earth.
There is nothingelse except for the life you have left behind... this beingour greatest legacy.

Canadian Steve: If I thought that was true, I would think life was ultimately hopeless and pointless. The idea that there is something after death gives life hope and meaning, IMO.

'IMO' or IN MY OPINION' ... the most truthful thing you've said.

Listen mate, if I was governed by a 'higher power', I wouldn't be true to myself. You seem to think that by being a good person in life gives you the keys to heaven while Ibelieve that we should be decent to each other regardless of what the church says.

I think that by leaving behind a better world, we have done our best. By being simply 'decent', life is not pointless... I feel sorry for anyone who feels the need for an afterlife and without it, all things are pointless and hopeless. I don't mean to be patronising, it just seems to me that we have better things to do then to worry about some god and the contradictions that come with it.

Anyway mate, you're entiltled to your opinion... just be sure not to knock on my door.

Ihave a question for the religous nutters.

Where does it say in the Bible "Thou shalt sexually abuse children" and "Thou Church shalt cover it up and protect child sex offenders"???????

Interesting debate and one i'm sure to join in at length a little further down the track.

Being a Catholic I am of the belief we don't have topush the hard sell to have people join our faith. It sells itself to a certain extent. I also avoid the mormons and other bible bashers at length because I believe religion is not there to be sold door to door. I don't push my faith or religion on anyone else (well, except in here of course;))and I expect the same in return. Either way, people will make up their own mind.

Kiwi, you are right about the church when it comes to sexual abuse and I recently heard a theory that proud catholics who had gay sons and daughtersoften pushed them into the church to avoid public humiliation as it was a means to "hide" their sexuality when in fact it did nothing but bring disgrace upon the Church.

Willow, there are no athiests in foxholes........

One of the smartest things said in here yet

Mate I don't think that could be one of the reasons for sexual abuse. That could almost be seen as blaming the kids, not that I saw it that way, but honestly it could easily be taken that way. It's like saying if those kids hadn't been gay it would never have happened. Plus from all accounts a majority of the cases I've seen on tv and in papers ect the identity of the males have generally been kept quiet because they have a wife and kids, so in reality it wasn't the "gay" children that were targetted, it was just simply children.

And I don't care if the church thinks they have delt with it, a forgive me father for I have sinned, 10 hail mary's and a go to your room just doesn't cut it for what these animals have done. Covering it up makes the church just as bad in my books.

Nice quote Legend: "there are no athiests in foxholes..."
Well I'm one of them mate.

Here some other quotes for you:
"...the most cowardly thing you can do in life threatening situations is collapse and call on a god."

and

"Christianity is successful because all of the dissatisfied customers are dead"

I like the last one the best... :)

something interesting to think about as well.

It was Christians who dropped 2 nuclear weopons on cities filled with innocent people during a war.

Willow: Post #81. As you say, I'm entitled to my opinion. I don't come on here to proselytize, I was just responding to earlier comments about religion. I think I've been reasonable and not attacked you, or called names, or gotten personal. I'm just trying to express a point of view. (And when one comes from the position that there is a God, one has a different world view than those who don't believe there's a god.) I don't see why we can't have this discussion without getting personal.

If I ever do come to Australia, I hope you could take me to an NRL game. Most of my non-Christian friends don't think I'm "creepy", honest.;)

Offcourse I don't think you're creepy and I'm sure you'll agree that I wasn't being serious.

While I'm thinking of it, Leisotto said, "I might warn people in advance, i dont get on much, so any replies may take a while."
This was four days ago and so far Leisotto has only made this one initial post in LWOS.

Mark Waugh made a century on debut and Leisotto isn't far off. Congrats in advance to Leisotto for a fine opening knock. :):D

Still one nation under God...

The Guardian

Americans are more than twice as likely to believe that religion is important to them than people from any other western country, a survey of 44 countries has revealed. The telephone poll, claiming to represent the views of 38,000 respondents in every continent found 59% of the Americans questioned saying religion played a very important part in their lives. Only 30% of Canadians responded in the same way, while most Europeans appeared indifferent to religion's importance. The response from Europe showed 11% in France, 21% in Germany and 27% in Italy saying religion was very important to them. Surprisingly, 33% of Britons answered positively, even though less than 10% of the population is observant. Andrew Kohut, the director of the Washington-based Pew Research Centre which carried out the poll, said: "The survey shows Americans are more religious than people in other developed countries, even those which are so culturally similar to us in so many other ways. Americans still believe they are one nation under God, whereas Europe is becoming increasingly secular." In other parts of the world, religion represented a much higher priority: about 90% in Asia, 80% in Africa and 70% in Latin America affirmed the importance of religion to them.
