Time for Moylan to 5/8

I don't think we should change it now but next year we should change it because it can work much better imo. I think if Moylan is allowed to focus all of his attention on being a half he can get much better and same for Bryce once he moves back to an edge.

Bryce is not going to stay in the halves so it is going to change no matter how good it works this year.

I agree we just need to approach the pre-season with an open mind. We have three guys who could be our fullback and two that could be our five eighth. Whichever combination is looking best and fits the style of play Griffin wants we go with and have options if it isn't working a few months in.

I think default position should be to keep Moylan at the back to try Martin if he goes well in preseason.

I think we should look at the potential of TMM or Peachey as a hooker/utility if Moylan proves himself to be the best half and Whare, Hiku and Blake are all fit and in form.

Wallace can be our starting hooker. But we need a succession plan and we have no standout options. There's no guarantee either is a success. But there's no reason that they couldn't be either.

With injuries they would surely all end up getting a run.

TMM would have to have one hell of a pre-season to get the nod over Moylan , I don't think it's even close to being a contest.

Whatever the case though we need to be blooding both , our fallback can't always be Cartwright. Plenty of FB options if everyone's fit.

Agree Herbert, I think TMM has a lot of potential and I was really positive about his form in First grade but he isn't a better player than Moylan right now.

Does it really matter what number is on the back of Moylan or Cartwright??
Obviously what they are doing right now is working. Why change it????They are wearing a number on their back but not really playing a traditional role.

If Moylan was wearing the 14 jersey and starting the game you would not know what position he is playing. It shifts around so much.

Same with Cartwright. How often in the NRL do you see a number 6 cart the ball up the middle of the ruck?
The smart idea is to not change a thing in attack, to have both Moylan and Cartwright remain as our dominant ball players anywhere on the field, as is working so superbly, to keep that and to find a way to fit in a fullback who is a better ball returner and/or a stronger last ditch defender. One that wouldn't get rounded the way Moylan was by Moses for example.

Cartwright should not be getting the ball as first receiver. He should be running off Moylan or Cleary. That simple.

I get what your are saying Fibroman, but he has a fantastic long pass and has shovelled it out to Moylan or Cleary a number of times. Canberra used to do this move with Stuart and Daley, since they both had good passes and could cover half the field. Moylan and Cartwright can do the same with their spiral passes.

Mixing it up makes more sense. Sometimes he runs, sometimes he passes long to Moylan or Cleary, sometimes he attacks the line. We seemed to have got more out of the team since he has mixed his game up. Defences don't know what to do and that gives Cleary and Moylan more space. As long as he gives it to Moylan or Cleary if they call for it, I think it works well. We have scored a number of tries with him at first receiver where Cleary and Moylan get the pass from him and set up a try.

I don't think he should be playing in the halves but he certainly should have the freedom to play like a half when he spots something, he can be very dangerous from first or second receiver so I don't think we should be placing any limits on what Carty is allowed to do on the field. Its just at times when there is nothing on he tries way to hard to create something and forces a dumb pass or kick, but he will learn, he is getting marginally better at it though even recently he is still having one or two those forced plays a game.

He is popping up at first and second receiver and looks great getting early ball.

Cartwright having a shocker in comparison. Hopefully he does what he did against Broncos and has a ripper second half

I think it's too late now for a fullback to come in and be confident for the finals. The time to move him was way back when Soward and Wallace were dumped from the halves. We are stuck with what we have: Moylan playing 5/8 from fullback and Cartwright just doing whatever.

He has really been troubling teams with running game recently which was probably the big thing lacking in his attacking game I hope it continues.

And I agree we should just leave things as they are now. Dallin is really the only option at FB but he and Waqa have been working well together recently it's been a strength of ours the last couple weeks, besides a couple dropped kicks from Dallin they have been dangerous on both sides of the ball.

Spot on. Without our two wingers and centres putting in the big metres we would have really struggled for field position. Yeo, JFH and Grevs just didn't make many metres at all. It was a good job Cartwright focused on running more than usual because we needed his 150m contribution.

After watching the team get a good beating up by the Titans hard heads, do we rest a few players? We can't finish higher than 6th given the for/against difference. We could give Hardaker a proper run, put Moylan in cotton wool for a week. Try TMM for a spell, rest Cartwright and Merrin and give Latimore a good run to help his fitness for the semis (now RCG is out). Perhaps try TMM as a hooker off the bench to give Wallace a rest?

Last night was an argument for keeping Moylan at fullback. Though I don't think he ever looked comfortable under or fielding the ball, which I think is understandable given how difficult some of it was, the results were flawless. If he keeps that up we would be hard pressed to find someone as capable at the back.

So he looked poor under the one area of the game he wouldn't be required to do in the halves (contesting kicks).. and you think it's a game that proves he should stay there?

I think what I said. So to repeat myself, he looked uncomfortable at times, understandably given the difficulty, but his results were flawless. If that sort of showing continues it would be difficult to find another player as capable at the back.
