THE greatest irony in all this is that four months ago Nate Myles wanted his Monday drinking buddy Todd Carney sacked from the club for good. As it stands, Roosters chairman Nick Politis is genuinely torn about whether to take that same course of action with his superstar five-eighth, who has been gifted more chances than he deserves.
Politis has not spoken to Carney about this latest transgression but club sources say the troubled superstar left an emotional voice message with him on Tuesday night.
The call has not been returned and that in itself explains the depth of Politis's disappointment. Nobody has backed Todd Carney more than Nick Politis.
While Carney squirms, the multi-millionaire businessman wrestles with the fact he considers Carney a decent guy who can win footy matches on his own - yet seems unconcerned about trashing the brand Politis has worked for decades to build and protect.

Politis was unavailable for comment last night but the way chief executive Steve Noyce was talking, Carney was hanging on by a thread.
"At times you need to draw a line in the sand and that has probably happened," Noyce said. "The fact is that people choose to betray the trust. This is a team sport and this is a team trust situation. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and if you could change things you'd love to."
Politis does not consider Carney to be an evil soul, but the same could not be said about his opinion of Myles, who he considers a poisonous influence on his beloved club.
That's why he made the decision earlier this year to push him out the door and let him sign with the Titans.
Make no mistake: Myles won't wear the red, white and blue colours again. When Carney and sacked hooker Anthony Watts were caught out having a boozy night in Kings Cross in April, it was Myles - as part of the leadership group - who pushed for Carney to be sacked. Here he was four months later, standing alongside him outside the notorious Courthouse Hotel in Taylor Square, in boardies and thongs - the true hallmarks of a marathon drinking session.
No wonder more than a few Roosters players and officials with long memories were comparing Myles to his former Bulldogs teammate, Willie Mason, who had swung through the eastern suburbs club like a wrecking ball in 2009.
Incredibly, the Roosters had seen the events of Monday night coming. Noyce made the startling admission at a packed doorstep press conference that he had known "for weeks" that Carney had been back on the drink.
It is understood that about a week ago - before the non-drinking pact - Carney and halves partner Mitchell Pearce had drunk heavily before turning up for training the next day.
One man who has been delighting in this fall from grace is Watts, whose contract was finally terminated last week. He has had a spectacular fallout with Carney, and he couldn't help himself from tweeting this on Tuesday: "Hahaha get rid of me ... Are you sure i was the problem- ... Plzzzzzzz!!!!!!"
For months, Watts and his management have been playing hardball with the Roosters, threatening to go public with just how off the rails Carney has been at times.
The reality is Watts has been just one element to influence a club that has gone from grand finalists last year to almost rock-bottom again.
Carney's manager David Riolo admitted on Triple M yesterday that his client was easily led - but that he was a 25-year-old man who should man-up and take responsibility for his own actions. In the past, it's Anthony Watts, Nate Myles and Darius Boyd on last year's Four Nations campaign who have been blamed. Now the buck looks like it might finally rest with Todd Carney.

All I know is that Bondi is in a shambles. Thank god Myles is going, and unfortunately I think Carney should go too. A broom needs to go through the place to start the clean up and re-build. It all starts with a good culture and it's obvious it's sorely lacking.

If Myles gets sacked do we have him on our books for next year?

Carney and Myles will get sacked, you can't just go sacking people from any employment without going through the correct procedure.

Yeah he isn't really relevant any more. Leadership group my arse though.

As for a rebuild....ffs we've rebuilt every 18 months since 04

The club hasn't genuinely rebuilt at all and the signing of those merkins from Canterbury, which was the only thing the club has done, has destroyed the club.

The club should forever ban the signing of players who are playing for or have previously played for Canterbury.

Mason....ffs...biggest dud.
Although signing Chris Anderpson was a worse decision, imo. And Fittler might have the footy brain to a good coach one day but was ruined far too early.

In the NFL a bloke has just come out of two years in prison to sign a three million deal. Guaranteed money. 34 years old. Was in jail on. Gun charges. Another player Vick ran a dog fighting ring and returned to playing after a prison sentence. W
Now I know they do gay. Marriage in new York but to kick carney out and ban him for a few sherbets and low level criminal offence s is a disgrace worse thAn anything he has done. We are a joke .

More articles ladies. Based on this it seems like the players are leaning towards him staying...if he stops being a dumbmerkin. Not sure the players' opinions are really relevant to what will happen though.

BRAITH Anasta yesterday declared that Todd Carney will have to work his butt off to earn back the trust and respect of his teammates if the Sydney Roosters board decides not to sack the embattled five-eighth for his latest alcohol-related indiscretion. Carney is not expected to learn his fate until next week but the Roosters showed yesterday in their spirited win over St George Illawarra at WIN Stadium in Wollongong that life can go on at Bondi Junction without him.
Carney's latest slip-up was to hit the town with Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nuuausala and break a pact the team had made not to consume alcohol for a fortnight.
It is not the first time he has let his teammates down and Anasta admitted yesterday the road back for him would not be easy. "Toddy has obviously got a few issues he needs to sort out and he needs to sort them out sooner rather than later because time is ticking and there's only so many chances he can get," Anasta said. "Whatever the board decide to do he needs to earn the trust back of the players and that's going to take a bit of time. Whatever happens, if he comes back to the team, then he'll have to work his butt off to earn the respect and trust back of the whole group.

"You ask any team -- and we showed it out there today -- you've got to trust the guy next to you and you've got to believe in the guy next to you. If they're not showing that then it affects the team."
Carney, Myles and Nuuausala were all stood down for yesterday's match, sparking predictions of a swift demise at the hands of the premier. Instead, the Roosters produced one of the biggest upsets of the season to give them hope of avoiding the wooden spoon.
Anasta paid tribute to the late inclusions, including Kane Linnett, Boyd Cordner, Brad Takairangi and Tinirau Arona, claiming they had injected enthusiasm into the team and even helped to quickly put the events of last week behind them.
"I'm overwhelmingly proud and it was just a huge effort," Anasta said.
"It was tough the first few days but the way that the guys handled it was unbelievable, really.
"There were a lot of distractions and it was hard not to be distracted by what happened earlier in the week. But even us older guys fed off the younger guys.
"They were fantastic and we benefited with having so many younger guys because they just took it with a grain of salt. They were happy to be in first grade and a few of them got opportunities so it was just a great end to the week."
The Roosters always looked in control of the game against the lacklustre Dragons. The only time they didn't was when Anthony Minichiello was sin-binned. The Dragons rallied to grab the lead.
The Roosters will meet Cronulla on Saturday night at the SFS and it is hard to imagine coach Brian Smith changing a winning team.
Regardless of whether the three fallen stars are picked, Smith said he hoped ongoing speculation about their future would not distract his team in the lead-up to playing the Sharks.
"We're supposed to not be distracted by that and get the job done," Smith said. "It's not easy but the guys got it done today.
"We've had a hell of a time with them (Sharks) in the last couple of seasons; almost as tough as playing the Dragons, so we've got a huge challenge this week."

Inspirational Sydney Roosters fullback Anthony Minichiello believes wayward star Todd Carney can win back the trust of the playing group if he is given another chance.
Carney, Nate Myles and Frank-Paul Nuuausala were all suspended after defying a team drinking ban and the Roosters were given little chance of containing St George Illawarra in their grand final rematch in Wollongong on Sunday.
But they out-muscled the premiers 20-12 to record one of the foundation club's best victories in recent times.

Unfortunately for the Roosters, the drama isn't about to blow over any time soon, with suggestions the trio may not front the club's board until next week to determine their futures.
Minichiello, who was part of a leadership group that opted to stand the players down, believes Carney is capable of winning back the trust of the Roosters squad.
"I think he can. Deep down Toddy's a great bloke," he said on Sky Sports Radio.
"Now it's up to the club and the coaching staff to look after the rest, so whatever they choose to do we'll definitely back them.
"In Canberra he (Carney) got a few chances and he's had a few chances with us as well but away from a couple of problems he is a top bloke and everyone gravitates towards him and that's why it's so hard when he has a little misdemeanour."
Minichiello said the focus was on a big finish to 2011 for the Roosters.
"As a playing group we're not happy with where we are at on the ladder, especially from last year and all the highs we had," he said.
"We want to finish the season off as best we can and jump into the pre-season and change things for next year."
Minichiello said the Roosters did a great job against the Dragons after such a difficult week.
"I think we worked for each other and came away with a great victory," he said.
"We can run off this game now, that's our standard, we have to try and build off that now.
"I think right from the start in the dressing room, everyone was talking and just reiterating what we needed to do in the game and it worked for us."

I've followed the NFL for years, and the reason it's different is because R.League is more of a team sport than Gridiron. I was watching America's game a few weeks ago, and there was a new signing at the 49'ers. He was a linebacker granted, but he didn'e know all his team mates names for weeks after his first match. If Carney was a winger it would help.

Anyway, P.Burress was given a much larger sentence than usual, as they were trying to eradicate that sort of behaviour, he was used as an example.
