I won't make a fuss about it, unless I happened to have really f*cked it up today of course :)
Then you could always email your lecturer afterwards, demanding to know why they asked difficult but legitimate questions in the exam, thereby admitting that you had not prepared from those particular readings .

yeah I had my first fail last year. there are a few of us repeating from last year in what was already a small class, lol.

I have to do 5 next semester as well but that's my own dumb fault for not fulfilling graduation requirements sooner.

Would be tough. Especially if you are working as well.

I work full time and do three subjects, definately not ideal and wouldn't want to be doing any more than that.

Expecting your students to remember the headings of every article they read is ridiculous, especially when they're reading 6-7 articles a week, all extremely repetitive. Expecting them to remember the key points is fair game. But specific headings. FFS.

You wouldn't even remember the headings five minutes later. He probably thought it was clever, it wasn't it was just cruel.

i know this might sound like a stupid question, but how does everyone study?

especially on little notice.. i find it really difficult.. i usually ignore the textbook and if its a theory subject just read through lecture note and tute answers.. .if more problems then i do tute questions over and over again

it really depends on the nature of the subject. I haven't sat an actual exam in a while., but I sort of studied when I was putting together my stuff for my honours thesis. I looked through all the notes I had written myself anywhere, I rewrote anything I still thought was important, I made note of anything I thought needed additional research and where I thought I would get that research from and then I prioritised what I had. With all the literature I was looking at, I tried to know what I was looking for from each text and only read that section and highlight the bits which were useful to me. I am quite lazy, but that method was effective and managed to get me to keep working.

I also scaffolded my actual thesis into lots of headings and tried to fill them in as I went along and then I cleaned up and made it all coherent and stuff, and I had about 4 people look over it as I was going along. I find working with headings and labelling the stuff I want to get done really helpful, it sort of works like a check list. Some of the other stuff I mentioned is not really relevant to studying for an exam

Exams are on the way out. Truly good lecturers can separate the goats from the sheep by setting a sharp multiple choice exam.

Anyone with half a brain knows essays are a better way of learning. They also teach you skills that are important for that thing after university. You know, that thing, called, um, the real world...

Mostly just lectures, lecture powerpoints and do as many past exam questions as i can find to practice on leading up to the exam.

Online law notes form past students are also helpful

I take notes during the semester, then transfer them on to study flash cards and take the cards with me everywhere, every now and then I get someone to test me on them.

nah i'm not working at all really atm.

Today's exam was for the course I failed last year. what a f**king joke. If I had had that exam last year I would have passed easily and wouldn't have had to do it again to begin with... happy but frustrated at the same time. I would have been lucky to get 20% in the exam the first time around but he made it incredibly more simple this year, probably got about 60 - 70%.

I don't study on short notice, I usually read a bit after class and about 2 weeks before the exam I get into routine.
I start off small, with a number of distractions but I'm allowing the content in my sub conscious somewhere and as it gets closer my studying becomes more strict.
With pratice exam questions etc.

Depending on what you study, there's no point knowing everything word for word...especially if you don't understand it.
I enjoy when the supposed brainiacs crumble in practical exams because they're asked a question that requires the student to actually think about the question rather then ramble off some text book paragraph word for word.

Any response from that email to your lecturer about the "unfair" exam, Cliffy?

As if I would title it that, while I disagreed with how he put together the exam, I actually like him.

He's on holidays at the moment, so haven't heard back yet.
