To be fair to NFL players and their terrible tackling, most of it comes dow to the stupid amount of protective gear they wear.

The pads make shoulder tackles difficult (they just bounce off each other) and limit their range of motion, and the stupid helmets effectively turn them blind once they lower their shoulder/head to make a tackle (hence why so many of these idiots get hurdled).
