prove what argument?

are you denying your club has signed top players from other clubs in recent years?

Souths are heading that way a bit too now. read recent threads on it

In the Roosters defence they've also lost some top players and Souths spent alot alot of their big bucks on duds such as Gulavao, Hegarty and the like...I see the Cap evening up in the end and thos clubs that appear to have struggled in resent years make up for it later on.

i'm not accusing them of cheating

i'm just trying to explain to Brycey you can easily accuse clubs of poaching top name players and it doesn't mean they're cheating

i think if the Storm had spent as much on developing Vic league as they had in poaching top juniors then they'd have a few playing

what would cost more, a team of development offiicers or a talent scout???...I guess a "DO" department ;-)

i think a lot of Storm fans think it's the ARL's responsibility to fund Vic development, not theirs

I would of thought it would of been in their best interest to invest wisely and put a development system in place, it could only benefit them and the game in the long run...by the way, who is their development officer???

they have one? lol

in the fairdinkum department, all clubs should have one..infact all clubs should have a department devoted to development not just one guy.

Melbourne never had a Premier League, Jersey Flegg or SG Ball side did they?
They aligned themselves with The Bears who funded their own team.
The Bears now work with South Sydney I believe.

When the deal was done with Manly, and The Sunshine Coast Eagles, I know The Sea Eagles commited some decent funding to their cause, but I don't know how this relates to Manly, and OUR teams salary cap.

Diablo, now that Melbourne DO have an under 20's side (or Jersey Flegg re-named type thing), I reckon we'll see them invest in a development officer.

That, in turn, would naturally mean they should start developing more of their own juniors mate. I'd actually love to see Melbourne kick off and embrace League. I really loved that team until Waldron called Manly cheats.

You know what the best buy of the season will be in 2008? The Storms talent scout being bought by The Roosters.

in all honesty, Melbourne made the first step in developing a side when they aligned themselves with the Central Coast Rip this year something which they probably should of done in 98 or 99...but anyway....

Hmmmm...never heard that mate. Either way, one thing I think we can all agree on, is they are an extremelly pro-active club, and no-one can blame them for that.

That said, and your probably not going to like this call Eela, is I hope Crusher uncovers some of these stars like he did at Parra (list of players for example above).

Apparently this Bani kid is going to be an absolute gun. I guess that's an example of having your eyes peeled in all corners of Australia, and your ear very, VERY close to the ground.

Manly now have a host of great juniors coming up as well (should never have let Groom go), so I think our junior development system is improving. Yeah, we are a massive way off the likes of The Eels, Dragons and co. but we ARE improving.

Put it this way though too Diablo....take Cameron Smith out of Melbourne (or he gets an injury), they'll look nothing like the side that demolished us all in 2007.

Their are 8 full-time development officers in Melbourne now( a few years ago it was 1), employed by the ARL but work alot closer with the Storm then they used too.

In November 300 kids from 20+ schools (90 entered) turned up to compete for the Billy Slater shield. The AFL would buy a full-page add in the Sydney papers to trumpet that type of result, and we're doing it with 1/3 the budget.

Heres another link to an article talking about the Storms Victorian players that ED obsesses about so much.

Your problem ED is that your too focused on the errors of the past rather then the huge strides that are taking place now.

Lol, now your just being obtuse. You'll probably claim the most of the rest are of Island descent so they dont count as true Victorians (which is how their made to feel).
so you think Widdop is a local?

he moved to Aus in 2005 ffs. he was 16 or very close to it and had been playng league for years
