at least the storm dont go raiding other clubs for established stars that they would prefer to keep, timanu tahu being a prime example

if every club operated like Melbourne then league would die. you keep believing they're somehow helping the game buy poaching players for big bucks instead of developing them and all will be sweet

what a funny little world you live in

this is just your opinion. there's nothing factual about your statement
I have a link here.

Raiders have a salary cap, they spent it on players they already have, therefore couldn't spend as much money on Woolford as Melbourne could.

How aren't they developing players?

They bring young kids through ranks, its not like they're signing established NRL players.

Michael Crocker, Anthony Quinn and Clint Newton

you seem to be obsessed with tahu but failed to recognise that we lost 3 very talented centres in 2004, Lyon, Vaeliki and Tonga and signed Tahu who is predominantly a winger at the time.

try leaving Parra out of this and argue with ED regarding the title of thread or else start a new thread about how Parra having no juniors and poach every player under the sun.

Everyone could pull out some names of who signs who. The thing is if you aren't Newcastle who for their own reasons or another barely sign established stars than you're a fan of a club who does sign players as well as producing younger players through the ranks.

If it means that much to you that players are locally produced than go sit at Redfern Oval and bitch and reminise about the 70s.

The game has moved on from this, every club is as guilty as the other when it comes to signing established players, its only some clubs that should be commended for blooding young talent and Melbourne seems to be one of the clubs doing that the best.

So given all clubs are working on the same jnrs salary cap it just shows that Melbourne have either A) a better scouting sytem, B) Better development of identified junior talent or C) a combination of the two. Clearly Melbourne aren't offering any "bigger bucks" than any other NRL club, they just spend it wisely.

As for developing jnr talent, I have mentioned that I disagree with the way the Storm were set up BUT RL in Sydney has been around for 100 years, come back to Victoria in 90years and have a bitch and moan if they still aren't developing players!

I think the talent on display at the Storm in Inglis, Folau and Slater shows they are setting a successful example in player development at the moment.

Being born and bred in an area isn't a criteria to meet to be considered a junior of a club. The article is making a big deal about nothing important.

People knock the Storm for the cash they receive from News Ltd but forget the ARL clubs and players were paid plenty of "loyalty" money as well to kick start financial success.

so melbourne operate on a different salary cap to the rest of the nrl?

Mate, to be fair to Diablo, The Storm have had to pay a fine (as large as $140,000 in one year) three years straight., so maybe you guys DO work on a different salary cap basis.

Additionally, rather than talking LOCAL juniors, I think we should say players that have only played in and for one club are juniors. In saying that, Melbourne do a great job. They obviously have a culture that players want to be part of.

Also, Manly have copped a fair bagging in this thread. I'm proud to say that a heap of players playing for us, have ONLY played at Manly. They are:-

01. Brett Stewart
02.
03. Steve Matai
04.
05. Michael Bani
06.
07.
08. Jason King (local)
09. Matt Ballin
10.
11. Anthony Watmough (local)
12. Steve Menzies (local)
13. Glenn Stewart

14.
15. Adam Cuthbertson (local)
16.
17.

So I think we shape up as good or as bad at finding, and/or harnessing young players as all the rest of the clubs.

they throw big bucks at the best juniors. that is not developing

why are there payers from the NT and WA playing but none from Vic?

those states don't even have a team

Melbourne are a joke. they will never have 1 junior.

El Diablo what part of the salary cap do you not understand? Teams have a certain amount to spend on players.

Dude by sway of popular opinion you look like a dill, people keep on trying to explain the concept of the salary cap but you are incapable of understanding.

lol @ you and your sources, what is this a courtroom, do you need these to win your little geekwars.

Use some brains and figure it out.

I'm sorry but its really not on the top of my thinking list at the moment so good luck with that, but feel free to enlighten me. But if you could please just keep on the subject. I'm finding it rather entertaining you trying to explain Storm cheating whilst dancing your way around the subject of the salary cap.
