I'm sure the NRL will be genuinely concerned with your personal feelings of Melbourne, especially with the couple of hundred thousand people that tuned in to watch their team win the premiership this year.
FMD. you always state the obvious?

the NRL couldn't give a rats what you or i thought

they don't even seem t give a rats about Melbourne seeing Gallop doesn't get 9 to broadcast games as per the contract

the reds and rams had players and were around for less

once again you have nothing

im trying to get to your level so i can understand how melbourne shouldnt be allowed to spend their SC on players from other clubs, just like the eels poach juniors from queensland and the country.

what a hypocrite

it's all too much, dally. you'll never get it, and Melbourne will never have a junior

same can't be said for the reds and rams

how is the weather in china by the way. the way you are digging that hole, youll be finished with the round trip back home soon.

if youve learned nothing else from this thread, at least you know about the 2nd tier salary cap now, and that the storm spend no more on juniors than any other club.

progress is slow sometimes.

I don't know how many juniors Adelaide developed but W.A. had a rugby league culture. Victoria never did, the players that were kids when the Storm entered should be ripe for the picking from now on.

you won't see them in a Storm jersey. Brisbane gave a youngster from Vic a shot though. Melbourne weren't interested in him

you are right, i feel like slashing my wrists when i try and explain the salary cap to you.

repeat what el dumbo - the storm have the same to spend in total on players like everyone else. if they choose to spend more on a junior than another club, no big deal, thats how the system is supposed to walk

this is what Victorian leage players say about the Storm

http://www.theage.com.au/news/league/mission-to-prove-storm-wrong/2006/11/18/1163266833083.html

Everyone around town says if you ever want to make it in the league you've got to get out of Melbourne," Paczkowski said. "There's no chance of making it if you're down here. We've had plenty of kids with great potential have to move out of town because they knew that they were not going to get nothing down here."

geez the Storm are doing well

not focusing on local talent at all

El Diablo you really have dribbled some crap in this thread.
Get over it, Melbourne are here to stay and League will get stronger there in the future.
Look at the Swans for example took them awhile to get bums on seats but now their crowds are bigger than the NRL sydney clubs. They have been successfull and won premierships just like the Storm has.
Only thing I don't like about the storm is that they are a News corp team, sooner they get rid of that filth the better.

EL's whole arguement in this thread is about how melbourne are stealing already spotted promising juniors and have yet produced none of their own.

Most posters in this thread have entirely missed the point.

So lets get rid of the Roosters than as they do the exact same thing.

There is 100 years of tradition behind them though. Being a souths fan, surely you recognise tradition ;-)

From that same article mate.

However, things are slowly changing and the route to the NRL could be much shorter in coming years. The Melbourne Storm and league administrators are investing substantial sums into schools and developing local talent.
The Victorian Rugby League, with the Storm, has introduced an academy program where about 20 of the best under-18 players are nurtured through a training, skills and weights program.

So your point is?

We are like the only real traditonal team left in the comp who has had the same name and colours through out it's existance.
My point was it doesn't matter if your a traditional club or not. If the Roosters have been around for 100 years you would think they would have their own junior system in place and use their own junior players. They don't and They have no excuse.
Storm are still a young club and are growing each year. Rugby league in Australia needs to expand out of NSW and QLD.

the operative word

no guarantee whatsoever

Such is life. Not all players will be good enough for the NRL. But if you put the systems in place then the routes to the NRL will develop. As the standard improves, so the route will become shorter.

The first 10 years of the Melb Storm were getting the club in a postition to be successfully and capture some support. The next 10 years should be used to captilise on that and get juniors etc interested in the game and playing it. It's not like the game is crap or something, it's good to watch, and will appeal to the more physical guys who want to play that sort of sport. You are never going to overcome AFL, but I think Melb and the NRL can carve out a niche market for themselves.
